Original vintage Soviet propaganda poster celebrating April 12 - Cosmonautics Day, featuring a stylised portrait in white and blue of Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky with handwritten formulae and a sketch of a rocket with trajectories, captioned in blue, red, and white stylised lettering: Earth under the protection of reason! Cosmonautics Day has been celebrated annually in the Soviet Union and Russia since 1962 and internationally since 2011 as the International Day of Human Space Flight. Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (17 September [O.S. 5 September] 1857 – 19 September 1935), was a Russian and Soviet rocket scientist who pioneered astronautic theory. Along with the Frenchman Robert Esnault-Pelterie, the Transylvanian German Hermann Oberth and the American Robert H. Goddard, he is one of the founding fathers of modern rocketry and astronautics. His works later inspired leading Soviet rocket-engineers Sergei Korolev and Valentin Glushko who contributed to the success of the Soviet space program.
