δ Sir Jacob Epstein (British 1880-1959) - Fifth and Sixth Portrait of Peggy Jean Bronze with a gold patina Height of largest: 32cm (12 1/2in) (2) Literature: Richard Buckle, Jacob Epstein, Sculptor , London, 1963, p.103, no.161, illustrated Epstein had always been fascinated by the expressive power of children and, with the birth of his own daughter, Peggy Jean in 1918, he found an endless source of inspiration. During the first three years of her life, he produced at least fourteen bronzes of her from a very small baby charting her growth into a young girl. British School (19th century) - A portrait of Frazer Bradshaw Henshaw Esq. Oil on canvas 67 x 56cm (26 1/4 x 22in.) The portrait here is offered with a parcel gilt and coloured ink parchment Resolution, dated 1868, thanking him for his work and noting that a shield of Henshaw's Arms would be placed in the Company's Hall. (2) Henshaw was Chairman of the National Bank of Ireland and between 1865 and 1868 Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. It is thought that this portrait shows Henshaw attired in the dress of Prime Warden of his guild. .

III handwritten document on parchment appointing Luke Fox to an official position in Ulster d 1799, printed Royal Arms devices, portrait of Geo III, scrolls and floral devices around the border, wax seal, diam 6” (chipped and cracked) attached below, 30” x 30”, mounted on card, GC for age (some wear and fading); with photostat details of Fox’s career (1757-1819).

An oil on canvas: Portrait of Lt Colonel William Pearce of The 60th Kings Royal Rifle Corps, half length and wearing 2 awards: Knight of Hanover and Military General Service medal with 3 clasps, “Aetat 37” in the right corner, gilt framed 40” x 35”. Good Condition Plate 48 Note: Lieutenant Colonel William Pearce Knight of Hanover, JP,died 5th February 1871, aged 81 (his box tomb on raised enclosure at St Cattwg’s Churchyard, Llanspyddid, Brecon, Wales). Ensign 44th Regiment 31.12.1807, Lieutenant 21.09.1810, Captain 60th Regiment 15.08.1813, Major 30.08.1825, Lieutenant Colonel (unattatched) 29.08.1826. Served in the Peninsula War from Jan 1811 to Feb 1813 and was present at Sabugal, Fuentes d’Onoro (wounded), Badajoz, Salamanca, Burgos and the Retreat from Burgos (present at Villa Muriel). Military General Service medal with 3 clasps Fuentes d’Onor, Badajoz and Salamanca, Knight of Hanover. Pearce captured the French eagle of the 62nd Regiment of Line at Salamanca whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion 44th Regiment. An impressive oil painting of Czar Nicholas I of Russia (1825-1855) in the uniform of the Chevalier Guards c 1825, mounted in white uniform with gilt breast plate, troops in background, 30” x 25”. Nicholas I took Russia into the Crimea War but did not live to see its conclusion. This painting appeared on the front cover of Tradition magazine Volume 3 No 18 and was in the collection of R Belmont-Maitland Esq. Good Condition Plate 52. Please note: This is a change to the original description which listed the item as a portrait of Alexander I as described in Tradition magazine. The estimate remains the same.
A miniature on ivory of Brigadier General Alexander Pope, half length in full dress, 4½” x 3¼”, gilt inner frame, on ebony 7” x 6” overall; ink written note on back “Portrait of Brigadier Genl Pope who commanded the left wing Cavalry at the battle of Chillianwallah (1849) where he was wounded and subsequently died from his wounds. He married my grandmother (name unclear) who died at Bath about 1890. See Alison’s Europe, Vol VII, page 102. 19th Nov 1906” with a recent additional note that Pope led the 6th Light Cavalry. An oil on canvas portrait, half length, of James T. Bell, 17th Royal Westmorland Militia c 1835, by Thomas Gandy, (exhibited Royal Academy in 1859, catalogue No 342), full dress in scarlet coatee with silver wire lace and buttons in threes and silver epaulettes, 35” x30”, in ornate pierced gilt frame. Very Good Condition. Plate 56 Note: London Gazette 29.10.1852 Royal Westmorland Light Infantry Corps of Militia: James Thomas Bell Esq to be Captain..19th October 1852.
An extremely fine and important portrait (oil on canvas) of Count Matvey Ivanovitch Platoff (1751-1818) Chief of the Don Cossacks during the 1812 campaign of Napoleon I. This finely executed portrait, in three quarter length of Count Platoff wearing all his orders and medals was probably one of a number of leading Russian generals portraits which were commissioned by Tsar Alexander, from the English painter George Dawe (1781-1829) whom he appointed first painter to the Imperial Court. A fine work of outstanding historical value, in very fine condition 36” x 32” and bearing old label on the back which states “The Count Matvey Ivanovitch Platoff General Altman of the Don Cossacks 1751-1818. He distinguished himself during Napoleon’s Russian campaign fighting against the rearguard of Marshall Ney. Count Platoff entered Fontainbleau in 1814”, framed. Very Good Condition, canvas relined. A good Austrian 20 bore flintlock holster pistol by Georg Keiser, c 1730, 19½” overall, barrel 13½” with shaped and engraved breech, top flat gold inlaid “Georg Keiser in Wienn”, breech tang engraved and numbered “2”; flat lock with swan neck cock, squared pan and unbridled frizzen, plate engraved with maker’s name around cock and pan, and with scene of horseman saluting his superior officer with tented encampment in the background; butt walnut fullstock with carving around the mounts and breech tang; chiselled and engraved brass mounts retaining traces of gilt, including long spurred butt cap, fore end cap with integral ramrod pipe, trigger guard with portrait medallion, and sideplate engraved with trophy of arms and figures; original ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, the lock quite crisp with dark patina. (some wear, old repair to fore end). Plate 79

A portrait of a double-headed Midland Railway train comprising; a MR Johnson 4-2-2 locomotive, 614 and a MR Fowler Class 3 4-4-0 locomotive, 508. The picture shows a view of the Lickey Incline. Signed and titled in the bottom left-hand corner; ‘Topping the Lickey, 1921’. Also with writing on the reverse; Hamilton Ellis, Southesk, Mannings Heath, Horsham, Sussex. Dimensions in frame; 590mm x 590mm. Good condition, however some cleaning required. Plate 4
