A collection of thirteen letters, including, four ALS from Elizabeth, Queen of George VI, most opening 'Dearest Ruth' and offering thanks for gifts, 'Thank you a thousand times for sending me those glorious records', and on the death of a friend, 'Elizabeth was something special in my life - you see I was only ten when she was born, + so it was a relationship which bridged the generations. Now there is only the Queen + you who I want to be with, so I must be thankful'; a further six ALS from HRH Princess Margaret, noting her contraction of mumps, 'Sir Frederick has been to see me, and is mystified as to how I managed to get it. He also said that 'you couldn't have spread it any better or efficiently if you tried! Which immediately plunged Lilibet into the depths of despair and gloom' and her engagement 'We are both blissfully happy and Tony wants to send his love remembering the many muddy miles you strode with us in January! It's wonderful no one guessed the reason of his visit and I only wish you'd been in on the M.I.5. arrangements by which he was whisked into the Queen's room to ask the vital permisson!'; a further letter from Mary, Queen of George V, dated March 31st 1947, with two signed portrait photographs, 88mm x 136mm (13)
