Studio Pottery - Shigeyoshi Ichino for Leach Pottery St Ives stoneware squat baluster vase having a brown glaze with Ju type splashes, impressed marks, 15cm high; together with a Leach Pottery stoneware small footed bowl having cream glaze with iron glaze abstract decoration, 13.5cm diameter together with a footed bowl marked with painted mark C7 and PF (3)The general condition is good for all pieces, but the vase does have some light crazing.
Three Japanese pottery Noh masks. 7 x 4.5cm, 6.5 x 4cm, 6 x 5cm. (3) From the estate of Frederic Lipscombe.Frederic Lipscombe was an artist who studied at the Slade School of Art, after which he worked with the master studio potter Bernard Leach. As well as working in clay he was a wood carver, a silversmith, and a printmaker. In the 1930s he taught at art schools in New Zealand including Wellington College. Prior to WWII he travelled widely in the Far East, and during these travels in the 1930s he acquired objects that interested him and which he found inspirational for his own creative work. These included many carved jades and netsukes. He returned to England at the outbreak of war in 1939. He died in 1968.His collections are now being sold by his grandchildren.

In 1902 after he had qualified, he went to China where he obtained a position in the Public Works Department of the Shanghai Municipal Council. He spent his working life in Shanghai until he left in 1926.During his time in China he held interests in a Christian Mission school and helped to support street children.He seized every opportunity to visit other parts of China and took thousands of photographs. He purchased widely on his travels, particularly woodcarvings, bronzes, traditional kimonos, paintings and porcelain. He treasured silver items and bought much to take home. He travelled home at least four times during his stay in China and these return visits were round-the-world trips in which he travelled through and visited Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Egypt and The Holy Land, the Far East, Canada and USA.On his return to the UK he lived in Northampton where he was a lay preacher and a local councillor. He gave a great many talks on his experiences in China and the many other Countries he had visited.He died in 1962.

Jason WASON (1946) Globular Vessel Stoneware, impressed personal and Leach Pottery seals to base, 23cm.There are four chips to the base of the piece which present themselves in varying sizes. The largest being 7mm in length and the smallest 3mm in length (please see additional images). Other than this, the piece is in excellent condition with no areas of major concern.
Jason WASON (1946) Globular vessel Stoneware, impressed personal and Leach Pottery seals to base, 10.5cm.There are three small chips present on the edge of this piece (please see additional image). The largest of the three measures 4mm in length. Besides this, the piece is in good condition.
