Vandekar of Knightsbridge. Michael travelled internationally to trade shows and antique fairs and helped with the launch of the New York branch of Vandekar in 1982. Michael retired to Cornwall around 1988 he settled at first in St Ives, where he became a prominent patron of the arts. This vase is in excellent condition, similar to how it was originally made. To the lip there are areas where the glaze has not held during firing. Otherwise perfect.

The piece has been examined under UV light.

A Japanese Tobeyaki porcelain okimono, Showa period (1926-1989), of a seated cat with a white glaze, 59.5cm high, with original tomobako box, signed Baizansaku (made by Baizan) to the box Provenance: Purchased from Gregg Baker in January 2017.The town of Tobe in Ehime prefecture is famous for its hand-made pottery, known as Tobeyaki, which has been in production since the Edo period. Keen to research traditional techniques of Japanese pottery, Tobe was visited in 1953 by the renowned artists Bernard Leach (1887-1979) and Soetsu Yanagi (1889-1961). The Baizan studio, established by Umeno Masagoro (dates unknown) in 1882, continues to produce fine pottery to the present day. Condition ReportBox with chips and surface scratches. Cat with a firing crack to base, no other obvious faults.
