The following six lots were written to Mrs Mary Clarke by Princess Diana. Mary looked after Diana from the age of 9 and also her brother and sisters after the divorce of their parents. They maintained a friendship up until Diana's death. Lady Diana Spencer - a fascinating and touching two page letter on headed Althorp paper dated 21st December (1978) - written to Mary Clarke congratulating her on her forthcoming marriage and discussing her time at finishing school, looking after children and a cooking course and 'My love of life is dancing, things like tap, modern, ballet and jazz. Also I love singing, even though my voice sounds awful and watching me dance is like watching an elephant, so no-one does!' 'For the last few years, Jane, Charles and I have been trying to marry off Sarah to various men but have failed in every direction. We even thought Prince Charles might have been in the running but were relieved when that passed.'
