An early 20th Century Jaques locking travelling chess set in mahogany box, bears brass label inscribed "J. Jaques and Sons Makers London" and stamped "In status quo patent chess board" CONDITION REPORTS Size 23 cm square when open. Opening and locking mechanisms do appear to work, however there are four pawns missing, overall with wear, scuffs, dirt and some cracks and chips to chess pieces, wooden board with various scratches and scuffs.
Good quality late Victorian Jaques Staunton-style weighted wooden chess set in a green baize-lined mahogany box - bearing label to underside of lid, height of king 8.9cm CONDITION REPORT White king has impressed Jaques stamp and set is weighted. General overall condition of set is good. No replaced pieces. Cross on white king is damaged at top, corner is missing and chipped. One black pawn is cracked through base. One white pawn has surface mark. Pieces have minor scratching and wear commensurate with age and use. Box is in good condition with minor cracks to lid. Interior slightly worn. Staunton label is torn and pieces missing
Nineteenth century carved and stained bone travelling chess box with games board top containing chess pieces, the box 12cm wide CONDITION REPORT Set is incomplete. Red - missing one bishop and three pawns. White - missing one knight, one castle and six pawns. Condition of remaining pieces is good with minor chips and wear overall. One red castle is damaged at base. White knight has been pinned and base is not original. Box is in good condition overall with some wear, one corner seam open
