Most items with some chips, and some items with losses - for example - some castelletated top sections of 2 castles broken off and missing, chips to some pawns, and to Kings. Age drying and cracking to the bone. Some bases reglued.
A small group of Chinese `Diana Cargo` blue and white export porcelain, early 19th Century, comprising a pair of triple arch pattern coffee cans and saucers and a chess player`s pattern tea bowl and saucer, all bearing Christies Diana Cargo paper labels (faults). Note: the Diana was owned by Palmer & Co of Calcutta and was licensed by the English East India Company to sale between Calcutta or Madras and Canton. The Diana was on one of these voyages when on the 14th March 1816, she hit some rocks off the Straits of Malacca and sank. The wreck was identified and recovered in 1994 and its porcelain cargo auctioned by Christies, Amsterdam in March 1995.
An early 20th Century boxwood and ebony Staunton chess set by Jaques & Son, London, with weighted bases, height of king 9.1cm, the two kings marked in red `Jaques London`, other pieces marked with red crown, within a mahogany box, the interior of the lid with a possibly later label (some minor faults), together with a leather board (faults).

An Anglo-Indian Carved Sandalwood and Elephant Ivory Chess Set, circa 1820, each with petalette circular domed base and multiple knop, and various carved and engine turned detail, the sandalwood pieces with both knights missing, contained in two ivory veneered sandalwood boxes with black pigment decorated engraved bandings, 22cm wide Box 1 - large portion of right hand veneer missing and piece not retained. Bad splitting and shifting of veneers and discolouration. Splitting of the basal boards. Later textile insert. Box 2 - two loose sections of lid veneer (both retained). Further lifting of veneers and general cracking and rubbing. Hinged lid detached and cracked. Later textile insert. Basal boards cracked. a/f. Wooden chess set - lacking both knights. King has a section of the finial cross missing (piece not retained). Queen with chunk out of crown finial. One bishop finial chipped. Ivory set - both knights with horse head section finials reglued, one reglued at the base of the main stem. Queen reglued towards the top of the stem. One bishop top section detached and also chipped on the fringed peak. Due to the complexity of these pieces not all faults are necessarily contained within this description.
