He accumulated a vast fortune in the process, owning thousands of acres in the city. He was noted for his philanthropy in Buenos Aires, especially as the founder of a home for children. Able to retire at an early age, he spent most of his time in London.

A Damascus hardwood, ivory inlaid and mother of pearl heightened rectangular games table:, with all over geometric hexagonal panels, stellar and kaleidoscopic flowerhead designs, the hinged top enclosing a similar interior with wells decorated for backgammon and with a detachable folding chess board, having geometric frieze and apron on cabriole legs, united by an undertier, 71.5cm (2ft 4 1/4in) wide, together with boxes of discs, dice, tumbler and backgammon accessories.
