WW2 Hampshire 1st (Andover) Battalion Home Guard Battle Dress Uniform Set, cosisting of fine battle dress blouse complete with embroidered shoulder titles, printed H1 district formation signs and embroidered Sergeants rank stripes. Complete with twist cord lanyard. 1942 dated size label to the interior. Accompanied by a good condition pair of Battle Dress trousers, British army issue shirt, khaki forage cap with Hampshire badge, brown leather belt, leather gaiters and a camouflage netted scarf. All generally good condition.
WW2 Battle Dress Blouse & Airborne Beret Group Attributed to Edward Maxwell of “C” Company 7th (Galloway) Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers, 1st Air Landing Brigade, fine 1940 pattern battle dress blouse tailored with an open collar. To the arm is Tartan formation sign above printed Pegasus formation sign for the 6th Airborne division. Interior of the battle dress has it well faded original label with 1945 date. Above the label is inked with the name “MAXWELL” again very faded. Accompanying the battle dress is his original, un-dated, airborne beret, which is of typical wartime manufacture and has all the attributes you would see in a wartime beret. Kings Own Scottish Borderers badge to the beret with a Perspex backing plate. Accompanying the group is a panorama photograph of the battalion taken in October 1945, Maxwell’s name and address is written in ink to the reverse of this picture. This battalion took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem) on 17th September 1944.

1940s and later clothing to include an early 1940s silk dress, a larger sized early 50s dress in floppy rayon and others(mixed condition) (6)Silk dress is generally well worn and shows age, there is some colour bleed and small holes. Navy and white rayon dress has some small holes and damage, presents well, duck egg dress has fade, brown 40s blouse is in excellent condition, fox fur cape is in good condition, the blue cotton blouse is made from an original 1940s novelty print fabric with pirates, but it looks to be made more recently to an original pattern. The fabric shows age appropriate fade so it looks right, but the overlocking is modern.

Spanish school, 19th century."Portrait of a gentleman.Pastel on paper.Measurements: 54 x 40 cm; 66 x 52 cm (frame).Male portrait, centred in the face and in the upper part of the torso. The character, of aristocratic aspect, wears a shirt with a starched collar, raised on a silk ribbon, and with the pleated cotton peeping out of the big lapels of the black coat. The rhinestone buttons stand out against the white smoothness of the blouse. The kinky hair curls at the temples. The figure looks at the viewer with a certain haughtiness. The drawing shows a skilful hand in the brushstroke and in achieving the right chromatic qualities.

Another similar - slight wear, three buttons added to the front, 34" bust. Self striped shirt - ribbon inserts are split and shattered in places and a couple of small holes overall, 36" bust. White long sleeve top with lace insertion - couple of areas of wear, collar has been reattached with press stud fastenings, dark brown mark to the hem and shoulder, 36" bust. White sleeveless day dress - doesn't look as if ever worn but has a few marks and probably just needs a wash. White muslin dress - slight wear.
