A Roman amethyst intaglio ring,with an oval cabochon amethyst, intaglio engraved with a warrior's head, rub set to a landscape position. Concave leaf shaped shoulders, to a tapered shank, with bloomed finish. Head 10.80mm wide, 16.59g.Finger size L-L½Provenance: Iconastas, Piccadilly Arcade, St. James's, London, W1Please note that the rings from the Iconastas collection have not been the subject of a metallurgy report, and as such cannot be substantiated in terms of period or purity.Condition report: Tested as approximately 20ct gold. Surface wear and marks to the cabochon under 10x magnification.There is no documentation with any of the Roman rings. They are dated stylistically, by production techniques, by the fineness of the metal used and by the gemstones/intaglios used. The provenance we have is stated in the catalogue description.Tested with an auracle electronic 20-22ct approximately. This is not an XRF test. Acid spot test 22-24ct approximately.
