* ALASDAIR GRAY (SCOTTISH b. 1934),SCOTLAND THE POSSIBLE NATIONsilkscreen print, signed and numbered 29/60 in pencil, with Fine Art Guild Trade Stamp69cm x 53.5cmUnframedNote: 'Native Musicians: Songs for Scotland Too', and the Alasdair Gray Musical Scholarship Trust. In 2015 Alasdair suffered a serious fall, broke his spine, and is now confined to a wheelchair.First, the project asks Scotland's leading singers and musicians in various genres to contribute songs towards a compilation of Scottish songs in Alasdair's honour, their contributions to be selected with the theme in mind: 'Work as if you live in the early days of a better nation'. Artists that have already agreed to participate include Allan MacDonald, composer of 'The Bruce 700'; fold/trad musicians Matt Seattle, Ewan McLennan and Kathleen MacInnes, and the rapper Loki. The project will be building on the success of a 2014 project, 'Bella Caledonia: Songs for Scotland the Album', which included the similar compilation album with songs by The Proclaimers, Dick Gaughan and who's who of Scottish musical genius. We are confident that these artists (and others) will be pleased to participate in this sequel project.Secondly, the project will be raising funds (aiming for £2000) to seed an Alasdair Gray Musical Scholarship Trust, to be administered by Hands up for Trad into the future. Our hope is that various charitable trusts will add to this initial sum to help us to sustain the fund on an ongoing basis. The first Songs for Scotland project (in 2014, which included a film and live event) was partly crowdfunded. We will be launching a sixty day long crowdfunding campaign in support of this project on August 18th; and because the first Songs of Scotland was successful, both financially and artistically, we are confident that our fund raising will go well.In advance of launching our crowdfunding campaign we have been building support in the community. Alasdair himself, who is warmly supportive, has contributed a group of valuable, signed silkscreen prints to help us to raise project financing; and has also licensed us to use his fantastic image 'Native Musicians' as album cover art.

Country: Unknown. Year: Unknown. Artist: Vasarely. Victor Vasarely was a Hungarian-French artist credited with having created the Op Art movement, which Bridget Riley and Yaacov Agam would come to follow. Vasarely’s paintings and sculpture utilized geometrical shapes and colorful graphics to create illusions of spatial depth on two-dimensional surfaces. This abstract method of painting, also known as Kineticism, borrowed from a diverse range of influences, including Bauhaus principles, Wassily Kandinsky’s abstraction, and the Constructivist movement, which had a particularly significant impact on Vasarely’s practice. Born Vásárhelyi Gyozo on April 9, 1906 in Pécs, Hungary, the artist originally studied medicine, but switched to painting after two years. Vasarely enrolled in the Hungarian branch of the Bauhaus (Muhely) in Budapest in the late 1920s. After settling in Paris in 1930, Vasarely worked as a graphic artist and developed his signature abstract aesthetic. He lived and worked in the city until his death at the age of 90 on March 15, 1997. Size (cm): 95x71. Good condition, minor tears, scratches and creases on margins.Guaranteed authentic original vintage poster. Silkscreen printed on think paper.
