ASTONISHINGLY RARE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT ORIGINAL STEIFF ROD BEAR WITH ELEPHANT BUTTON. Where it all began-almost. The oldest Steiff teddy bear design as we know it in existence today. This utterly remarkable blond mohair bear is rod jointed, the second type of jointing Steiff experimented with at the very early turn of the last century. Bears with rod jointing were only produced for a small number of years and very few remain today. This bear is made from blond mohair, is 5-ways jointed, and has felt paw pads. He originally would have had five black claw stitches on each paw; he is missing a few stitches on his left hand paw. Teddy`s body is very solidly stuffed. His early and lovely face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes, a shaved muzzle, a black hand-formed gutta percha nose, and a light brown mouth. This charming bear is made from very long, soft and curly slightly faded yellow mohair and is jointed 5-ways. Teddy has tan felt paw pads with four hand-embroidered claws on each. OUTSTANDING LATE 1920s STEIFF ""FLUFFY"" CAT WITH ALL IDS AND WORKING MUSIC BOX. This precious and most feminine looking cat is sitting, head jointed, and made from very long white and grey tipped mohair which has mellowed to an attractive lilac color over time. Her tail wraps around her body and she has red hand-embroidered claws on her front legs. Her forehead has a center seam and her face is detailed with oversized green and black glass pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. She also retains traces of her original yellow-orange silk ribbon. Fluffy has a working music box which lets out a few happy notes when her sides are squeezed. This is a wonderful example and the smallest Steiff musical item this cataloger has ever seen; overall musical Fluffy was produced in 17, 22, and 30cm from 1928 through 1932. He has a very long tail which sticks out straight behind him. Cat wears a light blue ruff which is original to him. Cat holds a tiny blue velvet pillow style pincushion between his two front paws. The pincushion is detailed with two tiny blue silk bows and a few silver straight pins. Cat`s adorable face is detailed with tiny black shoebutton eyes, a light pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth that are highlighted with a touch of pink paint, and clear monofilament whiskers. This is only the second time this cataloger has seen this pattern; it is rare, classic, and truly demonstrates the best of Steiff`s turn of last century design and manufacturing capabilities. NINE-PIECE STEIFF FELT RABBIT SKITTLE SET ON WOODEN PLINTHS. It is unusual to find an early turn of last century skittle set in such fine and complete condition. The set consists of eight tan felt begging rabbits on wooden skittles and one rabbit king pin dressed in a red felt top coat and crown. All rabbits are unjointed, have pink felt-lined ears, black shoebutton eyes, and a simple hand-embroidered pink nose and mouth. All are mounted on wooden plinths with the king pin on a slightly higher platform. With a green and pink felt skittle ball. All the rabbit skittles and the king pin retain their tiny trailing ""F"" Steiff buttons. This set was produced from 1892-1912. The American version had 10 skittles while the European version had 9. Only 655 total of these red backed eye bears were produced in response to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and according to the consignor, only 78 were made in this size and mohair configuration. The bear`s face is detailed with black button eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. He has a particularly charming expression. Teddy wears a pointed tan felt hat with a reddish colored pom-pom, a matching tan felt ruff which has pinked edges, and a reddish bow and bell. These accessories are quite similar to those seen on Steiff`s felt monkeys of the period. LARGE GOLD STEIFF BEAR WITH BUTTON. Circa 1930 Steiff bear made from lovely long, golden colored mohair. Ted is 5-ways jointed and stuffed with excelsior. His face is detailed with brown and black pupil eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Bear has tan felt paw pads with black embroidered claws and a working growler; his collar is not original. The bear`s face has a somewhat serious expression, typical of the period. Ted retains his long trailing ""F"" button and remnants of his yellow ear tag as his Steiff IDs. SIZE: Overall 25"" t (60cm). Sitting 16"" t (40cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. LOVELY CLASSIC EARLY 1920s WHITE MOHAIR STEIFF BEAR WITH BUTTON. Teddy is stuffed with excelsior and is 5-ways jointed. Made from white mohair which has become slightly tan over time. Teddy has long arms with spoon shaped paws, long narrow feet and pronounced back hump. Four claws on each paw. Bear`s face is detailed with brown and black glass pupil eyes and a hand-embroidered brown nose and mouth, which has faded slightly over time. Bear retains its small trailing ""F"" in ear as her Steiff identification. Non-working growler. Bear has a lovely and wistful expression. SIZE: Overall 20"" t (50cm). Sitting 13"" t (33cm). EARLY BLOND MOHAIR STEIFF BEAR. Circa 1908. Blond hard and soft stuffed 5-ways jointed teddy bear with pronounced hump, long thin feet, and arms with large spoon shaped paws. Four claws embroidered on each hand and right foot. Non working squeaker. Teddy`s face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes and a hand-embroidered nose which has faded to brown. Bear has a gentle and timeless appearance and most likely was someone`s very dear friend. SIZE: Overall 16"" t (40cm). Sitting 11"" t (28cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Foot pads have light soiling with dark lining of felt apparent in a few areas. Hand paws with very minor soiling. Slight mohair loss to bear`s muzzle area and left foot, which also does not have claw stitching. Lacking button. A few loose stitches on the nose. Otherwise good to very good. 1-13863

VERY EARLY WHITE STEIFF MOHAIR BEAR WITH BUTTON. This sweet and innocent looking bear is made from white mohair, which has mellowed slightly with age. He is 5-ways jointed, and has traditional and early Steiff proportions including long arms, long narrow feet, and a pronounced back hump. Bear has tan mohair pads with five claws on each paw. His most endearing face is very childlike and is detailed with black shoebutton eyes and a brown hand-embroidered nose. You can see the brown felt that underlies the nose stitching. Bear retains a tiny blank button as his Steiff ID. SIZE: Overall 16"" t (40cm). Sitting 10"" t (25cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection.
