(32cm.) high (slight thinning to forehead and chest)

‘Ted’, an early Steiff centre-seam teddy bear with provenance, with cinnamon mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced muzzle, remains of black stitching, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs, hump and inoperative growler -15in. (38cm.) high (very worn, holes, lacking stuffing and pads recovered); original photographs of Margaret as a toddler in 1913, as a girl aged 6-8, a silhouette as a school girl and two of her modelling in the 1960s - the childhood toy of Margaret Caroline Lawrence who received him shortly after her birth in 1912, Birmingham. Ted accompanied Margaret wherever she went and when visiting her aunt in Playford, they could hear the explosions and gun fire from the 1st World War in France. Margaret married Ray Franks in 1938 and settled in Royal Leamington Spa and during the bombing raid on Coventry a bomb landed near Leamington resulting in the windows of Margaret’s house being blown out, Ted survived with a few splinters of glass in his fur!
