Steiff 17PAB/5317 antique teddy bear, German, 1905-1906, with blank button, red/blonde mohair, black boot button eyes, re-stitched black nose, fully jointed, remains of brown claw stitching, felt pads, bear has damage and has been repaired underneath righthand side of muzzle with hand stitching and glue, beneath hump- re-stitching, right and left hand paws have been reattached with addition of new fabric, glue and re-stitching, lower right leg has been re-attached with addition of new fabric, glue and re-stitching, due to this damage overall condition is Fair Plus (condition of the bear is otherwise Excellent, with little wear), 9.75"/25cm (seated). NB: PAB stands for plush, "1" stands for soft stuffed, otherwise for "hug-me" squeaker. The name "Teddy Bear" was first used in 1906.
