The Judge E.H. Gary Service - a fine Royal Crown Derby teacup and saucer, painted by Albert Gregory, signed, the gilding by C W Darlington, signed, the cup with two raised acanthus scroll cartouches containing baskets of colourful summer flowers, banded in gilt, cobalt blue and turquoise, raised and tooled matt and burnished gilt acanthus scrolls, swags and harebell tendrils and beaded swags, printed mark in gilt, retailer Royal Warrant and Tiffany & Co. marks. Judge Gary (1846-1927) amassed a substantial collection of art and antiques during his lifetime, housed in his Fifth Avenue mansion in Manhattan. After his death a large portion of his collection was auctioned by the American Art Association, Sotheby's predecessor in America. The total service above remained in storage until it was sold for $2,035,000 in Sothebys New York Rooms on 19th October 1994, lot 200
