A Royal Crown Derby Imari pattern part tea service, for four place settings (18) Condition report Report by NG Contents: 2 x sugar bowls, 11 cm diameter 1 x jug, 6.5 cm high 2 x 23 cm diameter plate 1 x 20.5 cm diameter plate 4 x 15.5 cm diameter plates - one appears to have been chipped and repaired. All look as though they could have been hung on plate hangers at some point in their lives. 4 cups and saucers - one cup cracked, one saucer with possible hairline crack Service has seen used, there is rubbing and scratches to painted and gilt decoration. Back stamps are not scratched through.
EDWARD HENRY CORBOULD, RI (1815-1905), 19th century commonplace album circa 1885-1889, containing several high quality original pen, ink and watercolour sketches by Edward Henry Corbould, the album having belonged to a Miss Ida de Kreeft of The Arches, Sutton, Surrey "Miss de Kreeft would feel highly delighted, if any friend who can handle a brush would (when he comes down this way) contribute in every so trifling and easy a fashion something calculated to please herself and others..." this manuscript pen and ink text probably in Corbould's hand with a comic original pen, ink and watercolour sketch beneath of "The British Matron on her way to The Derby" + another humorous original pen, ink and watercolour sketch by Corbould on the opposite page depicting a jester with paint brush atop a giant ladder falling away from a cliff face having painted "Ida de Kreeft 1885" on the cliff face + another pen, ink and watercolour sketch by Corbould overleaf depicting a fighting lion and unicorn with a Royal crest in the background "The lion and the unicorn fighting for the Crown, duet mon draw (harmoniously and sweetly performed) (which means that this design was by me)", signed and inscribed underneath "Edward Henry Corbould, RI... Sutton Common, Surrey, June 16th 1885" + another well executed pen, ink and watercolour sketch overleaf depicting a fashionable lady looking back as she begins to climb over a wooden stile "who's coming after me?" dated June 20th 1885, unsigned, probably by Corbould + humorous original pen, ink and watercolour sketch depicting jester with sausages, carrots and a pig stuffed into his pockets leaning against crates in archway with manuscript caption above "Now! after so boldly suggesting that I had anything to do with the missing little creature - in point of fact I was merely trying to look like Miss Damer's statue of Shakespeare! and was composing a few innocent lines of Tennyson - when I suddenly saw a fair young lady come out of the shop and she has gone to Enfield, it is not customary for ladies (be they never so fair) suddenly to depart for distant regions - without having some substantial reasons for so doing, however, the Police are able to judge of such acts! and some people say she confessed to be fond of animals etc - and that etc may include a vast amount of all sorts of things - such as sausages - carrots and other articles, but don't imagine that I would stoop to pick up such a reptile as a small pig, I should scorn the act" in Corbould's hand, a sketch signed only "RI Delt" dated June 23rd 1885 + THE KNIGHT'S MESSAGE, original pen, ink and watercolour illustrated title page + 3 full pages of original pen, ink and watercolour sketches and manuscripts story accompanying, the title page signed in initials EHC + another tipped in original pen, ink and watercolour sketch "an interested listener", signed in initials EHC + Edward Henry Corbould folding autograph letter dated June 9th 1885 to Miss de Kreeft "Dear Miss de Kreeft, being fully aware of the fact that you take a nice lively interest in all things relative to the sayings and doings of animals in general, I have considered it notable that you would not weep bitter tears when being told that at Lulworth in Dorsetshire, the glow-worm is so plentiful as I have seen a garden at night brilliantly lighted by them... faithfully yours, Edward Henry Corbould" with original pen, ink and watercolour sketch overleaf depicting man with baby in pram pointing to sky with caption "baby! hark at the glow-worm!" further signed Edward Henry Corbould, another well executed original pen, ink and watercolour sketch depicting knight in armour on horseback with manuscript text beneath "after tournament, the knight of bygone days AD1500" by Corbould, unsigned etc etc with other original pen, ink and watercolour contributions from other sources as well as assorted poetry, prose, scraps, autographed letters signed etc, pages of album approx size 21 1/2 x 17cm, old full calf gilt v worn "Ida" gilt title to top board
