A Victorian burr walnut and brass mounted writing slope, the hinged lid inset with a plaque inscribed 'George Turner Jan 11th 1885', the macassar ebony edged interior with a gilt tooled leather writing surface, pen and inkwell compartments and three secret drawers, with a Bramah lock, the base with a further drawer and with sunken brass carrying handles, 22.8cm high, 50.4cm wide, 27.2cm deep.
A pair of Italian verre églomisé pictures, decorated in gilt on a dark blue ground, one depicting Apollo chasing Daphne, the other with classical figures in a woodland setting, each in an ebonised moulded frame, with a brass suspension ring, late 18th / early 19th century, the verso of one inscribed in pen 'Bought by Mary Frederica Bury at Florence 1836', 11.8cm wide. A rare Victorian mahogany pocket compass, the screw-off lid revealing a green card dial with various London landmarks emanating from Regent Circus with distance in miles, including: 'The Exhibition', 'African Exhibition', 'Egyptian Hall', the base with a cardboard insert inscribed in pen 'COMPASS MADE FOR VISITORS TO THE EXHIBITION IN HYDE PARK 1851', 8.2cm diameter. Provenance: The Forde family, Wimbledon, London and by descent.
ENTERTAINMENT: Selection of multiple signed 8vo pages removed from autograph albums featuring various signatures of stage actors and actresses, entertainers, a few classical musicians and opera singers etc., including Clarice Mayne, Fred Terry, Mark Hambourg, Julia Neilson Terry, Lena Ashwell, Ruth Vincent, Nellie Melba, Adeline Genee, Malcolm Scott, Charles Coborn, Harry Lauder, Gus Elen, Robert Montgomery, Billy Bennett, Henry Ainley, Gerald du Maurier, Leslie Henson, Nelson Keys, G. H. Elliott, George Robey, Daniel Melsa, Charles Villiers Stanford, John Frederick Bridge, Ben Davies, John Coates, Thorpe Bates, Andre Gille etc. The majority are signed in bold fountain pen inks. Generally VG, 11 Provenance: The present pages were removed from one of a number of autograph albums containing signatures acquired by Mr. W. L. White, Restaurant Manager of the Connaught in London's Mayfair.
KELLY & RAINIER: KELLY GRACE (1929-1982) American Actress, Academy Award winner, later Princess of Monaco, & RAINIER III (1923-2005) Prince of Monaco 1949-2005. Signed 4 x 3 magazine photograph by both Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco individually, the image depicting the Royal couple in formal dress, outdoors, in half-length poses. Signed by the Prince ('Rainier, Prince de Monaco') and Princess ('Grace de Monaco') in dark fountain pen inks to a clear area of the border and partially into the image. Neatly laid down to the upper left corner of a backing card, to an overall size of 5½ x 4. Together with a postcard, unsigned, the image depicting photographic portraits of Rainier and Kelly against the backdrop of their residence, a commemorative postage stamp adhered to the front. VG, 2
RITCHIE HENRY PEEL: (1876-1958) Scottish Royal Navy Captain, Victoria Cross winner for his actions at Dar-es-Salaam in November 1914. Ritchie received the first Victoria Cross awarded to Navy personnel in World War I. A good original colour pen and ink cartographic drawing signed ('H. Peel Ritchie'), one page, slim 8vo, n.p., n.d. (c.1893). The map drawn, in black, green and pale green inks, depicting southern Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, and the northern coast of Tunisia, with shipping routes and distances, entitled, 'Plan showing strategical importance of "Biserta"', in Ritchie's hand and signed by Ritchie at the base. The Roman numeral II has been written within a circle to top right edge. Light signs of former mounting to verso, and a slight tear to the top left edge. VG Bizerte (also known in English as Bizerta), a town of Bizerte Governorate in Tunisia and the northernmost city in Africa.
CARUSO ENRICO: (1873-1921) Italian Tenor. A good, original pen and ink self caricature drawn and signed by Caruso, one page, 8vo, Strand, London, 1904. On a sheet of printed stationery from the Hotel Cecil the tenor has boldly penned a self caricature depicting him in a profile head and shoulders pose. Signed ('Enrico Caruso') and dated in his hand at the foot of the drawing. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG
