A Worcester XVIII Century Porcelain Coffee Cup and Saucer, bat printed in black with courtiers in a garden setting, the saucer inscribed 'R.I Worcester" and Anchor mark; a similar fluted porcelain saucer printed in black with figures in a classical landscape within a gilt rim, a matching sucrier and cover and a similar fluted hexagonal teapot stand. Bates (Herbert Ernest, writer, 1905-74) A Love of Flowers, autograph manuscript signed, c. 270pp., written on rectos, numerous corrections and revisions, some text duplicated in typescript (also with corrections), a few with small tears in corners where previously pinned, loose, housed in a modern morocco-backed box, 4to, n.d. [published 1971].⁂ H.E. Bates on his Kentish garden. With strong opinions on gardening, and the world of plants, including the use of Latin names for plants, instead of old English names. "Ruskin is dead. The compilers of catalogues, however, are still with us, still ready to out-Ruskin Ruskin. I observe that bell-flower isn't bad enough for one of them." - Bates.

Derek Balmer PPRWA, Hon. RA, (b. 1934) - 'Chinese Garden', inscribed with the artist's name and the title of the work, together with an exhibition label verso, acrylic on canvas, mounted on board, 18" x 24" *Provenance with Anthony Hepworth Fine Art, 15, York Street, Bath, BA1 1NG The work was produced in 1994, the artist studied at The Royal West of England Academy and has become a successful painter and photographer, he was also President of The Royal West of England Academy between 2001-2010, and has shown at many of the principal galleries and museums including The Bristol City Art Gallery, The Arnolfini Gallery. His influences were Bonnard, Peter Lanynon, John Hoyland and the American abstract expressionists such as Gorky and de Kooning among others. A major retrospective of the artist's work was held at The Academy in 2007 entitled 'Presidents Eye', he has also shown regularly at The Catto Gallery, The Theatre Royal/Bristol Old Vic are celebrating their two hundred and fiftieth anniversary with a major exhibition at The Royal West of England Academy which includes a gallery full of his theatre photographs (27-year retrospective), this closed at the end January 2016
