Farrer, Pontefract, a mahogany and oak longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and having a thirteen-inch painted arched dial with Arabic hour numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, decorative gilt-brass hands and with a scene within the arch depicting a lady walking in a garden, indistinctly signed to the dial centre Farrer, Pontefract, the oak case having mahogany crossbanding, the trunk with quartered fluted columns, the hood with a swan-neck pediment and fluted pillars, the base with a raised panel, height 220cm.* Biography Farrer were a well-known and prolific family of clockmakers working in Pontefract and near environs in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.Reference Brian Loomes, Yorkshire Clockmakers, Pub.
