A pair of 19th Century Chinese blue and white and polychrome decorated baluster shaped vases and covers, the main bodies decorated with panels of figures in a garden setting seated with vase of flowers and fruit on a table, a dog at their feet and verso with figures in a garden setting seated on a bench taking tea, the lady with a fan 23.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS One vase has significant crazing / hairline fractures throughout. The other has a large hairline fracture running down the main body. Both have losses / wear to the enamel and giling. One lid has lost its finial and has two large sections missing as well as other faults. The other has a large chip to the finial and several chips to the outer edges. All items have general wear and tear conducive with age and use to include surface scratches, knocks, bumps, etc. See images for more details.

Surfaces are weathered commensurate with use and exposure to the elements. One crack or fissure to the inside of one leg and some chips and knocks to edges as to be expected. Structurally solid.

He was a pupil at Dulwich College, before taking up a place at London University, from which he graduated with a B.Sc. degree. In September 1914 Cuthbert enlisted in the Honourable Artillery Company. He served at the Battle of Hooge, and shortly afterwards was drafted to the Chemical Section of the Royal Engineers, serving at Loos, before being promoted to Company Quarter-Master Sergeant, a position he held for just over a year, until June 1917. That month Cuthbert was granted a commission, still in the Royal Engineers, and shortly afterwards he was killed whilst leading his men under heavy fire at Ploegsteert.
Two Japanese blue and white chargers, one decorated with a landscape, the other decorated with peacocks, diameter of each 35cm, together with a Satsuma bowl dedcorated with figures in a garden, two Satsuma vases, a tea canister and cover, a smaller Satsuma vase, six shaped circular domestic bowls and a Chinese blue and white vase (15).Additional InformationThe landscape dish with some surface scratches to the glaze, the dish decorated with peacocks has a rim chip and also scratches to the glaze. The Satsuma bowl has two repaired breaks. The tea canister is rather squashed and dented and with wear to the metalware throughout. The blue and white vase is restored throughout. Each of the bowls with general staining and glaze scratches, two of them with hairline cracks to the centre and one of them with a larger hairline crack to the rim, all with general grazing at the edges.

The lacquered panels are yellowed and have some chips and wear to the surface and general scuffs to the frames.
An 18th / 19th century Chinese blue and white spherical bowl, decorated throughout with figures in a landscape, diameter 13.5cm, together with two small 18th century blue and white vases, one decorated with two geisha in a garden, the other with three dancing male figures and a geisha in a garden, the latter with underglaze blue leaf mark to the underside of the base (3). UPDATED DESCRIPTIONAdditional InformationThe large circular bowl with several chips to the rim, some staining to the interior and general light surface scratches and patina here and there throughout. The oval vase with two chips to the foot rim and probably lacking a cover. Some grazes and marks to the surface of this vase. The smaller vase with some glaze imperfections and general light wear to the surface and some stains around the rim and paint residue around the rim. The circular bowl may be 19th century rather than 18th century.
