A Victorian walnut games / work table, the hinged and swivel burr veneered top inlaid a chequer board to a baize lined interior with counter wells and cribbage boards, with registration lozenges for 1872, above five drawers, one with the date 1886, to a pull-out bag, on fluted legs and ceramic castors, 28.5in (72.5cm) h, 30in (76.4cm) w, 17.5in (44.4cm) d. The Patent Office records show that this design was registered in on 16th February 1872, by Jenks & Holt, 55 Bread Street, Cheapside, London. A 19th Century French rosewood brass inlaid rectangular games box by Breton of Paris, the lid inlaid with brass stringings and worded “Jeux”, the fitted interior containing a selection of board games, card games, dominoes, chess pieces, draught pieces, counters, rosewood octagonal one handled cribbage board and other games, 20.5ins x 12.5ins x 5.75ins high (lacking some stringing - the box generally in need of restoration)
A fine old Mahogany Games Compendium, the fold out doors containing turned Boxwood and Ebony Chess pieces, a lift out tray containing 12 ebony and 15 boxwood draughts pieces and a Cribbage marker board and 36 dominoes, the base of the case containing a whist marker (one hand missing) and a Lexicon Card Set and 5 counters, the lid a folding draughts and backgammon board, the underside marked with `The Steeple Chase`
An Edwardian oak framed and plated three bottle tantalus inset with octagonal slice and hobnail cut spirit decanters, 7ins high, and cut stoppers for same, contained in tantalus with plated top and handle, shaped sides with two lifting compartments, fitted with a games drawer below containing cribbage board, dominoes, packs of cards, whist marker, etc, 17ins x 12ins x 14ins high, by Walker & Hall, and presentation inscription "To Mr John Keir by a few friends on the occasion of his leaving Kelty District to take up farming in Kent, 30th October 1906"
A Victorian walnut turnover top combined games and worktable, of shaped outline, with Florentine inlay with chequerboard, cribbage and backgammon, fitted with a frieze drawer and wooden slide beneath, with turned legs and raised on downswept scroll feet united by a centre stretcher. Width 27 ins (see illustration).
A mid-Victorian burr walnut fold-over games/work table with line and foliate inlaid decoration, the shaped and moulded top hinged to reveal chess, backgammon and cribbage boards above a single frieze drawer and basket slide, raised on a pair of carved knop supports and four cabriole legs united by a turned and carved knop stretcher, width approx 68cm.
A mid-19th Century Irish Killarney marquetry and yew fold-over games table with pyrographic detailing, the hinged revolving top centred with a titled oval reserve of `Muckross Abbey` flanked by a pair of fern fronds within chequer banded, crossbanded and foliate marquetry borders, the playing surface marquetry veneered with chess, backgammon and cribbage boards with continuous clover leaf borders and two oval reserves of Glena Cottage and a ruin, the apron decorated with a band of oak leaves and acorns above a faceted octagonal baluster stem and a quatrefoil base with clover leaf tendrils, raised on carved paw feet, height approx 79.5cm, width approx 79.5cm.
A 19th Century Chinese Carved Ivory Cribbage Board & Pegs. The board intricately decorated with three small panels depicting figural scenes surrounded by lavishly scrolling flowers & foliage and raised on animal paw feet. The pegs accommodated in a small compartment with sliding lid to the underside, 1¼ ins (3 cms) high, 9½ ins x 3 ins (24 cms x 7.5 cms)
A Regency rosewood games table, circa 1815, with brass galleried shaped drop ends, the sliding leather inset top, with marquetry chequer board and cribbage board to the reverse, with embossed later leather backgammon to the interior, on painted and parcel gilt lyre supports on paw feet, height 73.5cm, width 100cm overall, depth 42.5cm, Literature: a related design for a similar table exists in a Gillows estimate sketch dated 13 April 1813. Although the design describes a "sofa" table, the striking similarity of the design elements of the top to the table being offered is apparent. The "lyre" end supports exemplified by this table are also known to be favoured by Gillows during the same period. (See pages 265 and 303, Gillows of Lancaster and London, Susan E. Playing cards - Rubicon Bezique, the "Shakespeare" theme cards by Chas Goodall & Son contained in leather covered box, with instructions and two markers; Waddingtons Lexicon (unused); two small "Elfin" packs of cards in leather case "To try your Patience" and a wooden card box the cover inlaid as a cribbage marker board, containing some card game instructions, some ivory pegs and two bezique markers
