A good rosewood Tunbridge ware rectangular games box, the concave sides with a broad band of floral mosaic with stick ware circular escutcheon, the cushion top with a fine mosaic panel of Bayham Abbey within a broad band of floral mosaic, the re-lined compartmentalised interior with central cribbage board, minor loss to back left corner of lid and slight crack, 27 x 21.5 x 8cms. A Victorian games compendium by F.H. Ayres Ltd London, with "The Guide to the Compendium of Games", including chess, draughts, backgammon, dominoes, Halma, The Steeplechase etc. Case dimensions 34 cm x 22 cm x 18 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet whilst structurally sound is well used and there are numerous ring marks, scuffs and scratches to the outer surfaces. The hinges are original and in good order. The lock and lock plate are present but we do not have a key. The interior of the cabinet is dirty and dusty with numerous small surface marks and scratches. One black pawn has a loss to the top thin turning, all other pieces are in good condition with only minor blemishes. One white bishop and the white queen have knot marks within the turning. The cribbage board has numerous surface scratches. The bezique markers instructions and cards are all a little worn around the extremities. There are 26 dominoes. There are 15 white draughts and 13 black. The horses are all missing paint. One jockey head is missing. One white horse has the front section of both front legs missing and the jockey head. One black horse has part of a rear leg missing. They are all a little bent. The fence is damaged and in two sections with losses. The folding games board has sellotaped repairs and scuffs and nibbles to the extremities. The instruction booklet is also dog eared, scuffed and worn.
