Two Cambodian silver betel nut boxes, modelled as a turtle and an elephant, the turtle with cross-hatched carapace, the elephant with long tusks and trunk raised, a Chinese white metal hexagonal small box with hinged lid, repoussé decorated with dragon, phoenix and other creatures and symbols, and two Peruvian silver ash trays, each inset with a five peso piece dated 1889 and 1916. (5) £140-£160 --- Betel nut boxes were used to store the areca nut (sometimes known as the betel nut) which would be wrapped in a betel leaf with lime paste and other ingredients, often tobacco, for chewing. Condition Report Elephant: stamped *30 Turtle: two-character native mark and .90 Both in good condition Box: height 4cm, diameter 5cm, good condition. Ashtrays: one slightly mis-shapen, 1889 peso with light wear, 1916 with a slightly more wear.

Hayashi Kodenji (1831 - 1915) Fine Japanese cloisonné enamel bird tree vase, Meiji 1868 - 1912, worked in polychrome enamel and silver wire with trailing wisteria above and below flowering shrubs (kikyo) and Chinese bellflower reserved on a dark blue ground, silver rim and foot, with gilt bronze interior and base, lozenge device mark to the underside for the Hayashi Kodenji workshop Nagoya, unsigned, 24cm high.CONDITION REPORT: Additional close up images have been taken, please take these into account along with the condition report.There are minor scratches to the blue ground. Minor dinks to the rim. Age-related staining and what looks like some losses to the gilt interior. Looking through a glass we can see minor losses to the decoration from the neck to the shoulders, with age, the main decoration is in good condition. Again, minor small losses to areas. We can see small holes to the flowers, looks like small losses to the enamel. Minor scratches to the underside.
