SELTENER UND FEINER ASTRONOMISCHER TISCHREGULATOR MIT SEKUNDE, MONAT, TAG, DATUM UND MONDPHASELouis XVI/Directoire, Paris um 1800/10. Das Zifferblatt signiert Ferdinand Berthoud (Ferdinand Berthoud, 1727–1807, Meister in Paris 1754), diese Uhr eventuell von dessen Neffe Louis Berthoud, der anfangs mit dem Namen des Onkels signierte.Messing und Bronze ziseliert und teils vergoldet. Skelettiertes Werk mit fünf emailierten Zifferringen. Zentraler grosser Zifferring für die römischen Stunden, darüber ein mit Wolken und Sternen bemaltes Zifferblatt mit Anzeige der Mondphasen. Im unteren Bereich drei leicht versetzt nebeneinander angeordnete Zifferringe für den Tag, Datum und Monat. Werk mit Scherenhemmung und grossen, seitlich ausstehenden Antriebsrädern, Kompensations-Hinterpendel mit Schneideaufhängung und schwerer Lünette. Vermutlich Monatswerk. Halbstundenschlag auf Glocke. Die Schlagwerkfeder bedient die astronomischen Anzeigen. Auf schwarzem Steinsockel und vergoldeten Kreiselfüssen. Der Sockel frontseitig mit durchbrochenem und vergoldetem Bronzezier in Form von Blätter- und Blumenvoluten sowie Lyra.35 × 13 × 62 cm.Provenienz: Schweizer PrivatsammlungMonatszeiger verbogen. Pendelgabel fehlt.Ferdinand Berthoud, Sohn eines "justicier" des Val-de-Travers, lernte die Uhrmacherkunst bei seinem Bruder Jean Henri 1741–1745 und gilt als einer der absolut führenden Uhrmacher der ganzen Uhrengeschichte. Seine Pendulen, Taschenuhren und Chronometer gehören zu den besten Arbeiten des 18. Jahrhunderts.Nach seiner Lehre liess sich Berthoud in Paris nieder, wo er wohl zunächst bei P. de Rivaz tätig war, ehe er mit Julien Le Roy zusammenarbeitete. 1764 wurde er Mitglied der "Royal Society" in London und erhielt den Titel "Horloger Mécanicien de Sa Majesté et de la Marine ayant l'Inspection de la Construction des Horloges Marines". Es folgte die Mitgliedschaft in der Kommission für die Gründung einer königlichen Uhrmacherwerkstatt, nach der Französischen Revolution die Aufnahme in die "Jury chargé de décider les questions relatives au nouveau système horaire" (1793). Zudem wurde er 1804 zum "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" ernannt. Die grosse Bedeutung von F. Berthoud, der für die Herstellung von Standuhren in geschweifter Louis-XV-Form fast immer Gehäuse von F. Lietaud verwendete, liegt nicht nur in seiner regen Tätigkeit als Uhrmacher und Mitglied von Kommissionen zu Fragen der Zeitmessung, sondern auch in seinen beeindruckenden Schriften zur Konstruktion und Entwicklung von Uhrwerken. Seine ersten theoretischen Arbeiten über eine "pendule à équation" wurden bereits 1752 durch die "Académie des Sciences" anerkannt. Zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte er neue Erkenntnisse zu den "horloges marines", die in einem königlichen Auftrag für eine Pendule für die "Salle du Conseil" in Versailles gipfelte. Ab 1766 war er der einzige Hersteller der "horloges et montres marines" der königlichen Flotte. Sein Werk "Traité des Horloges Marines" wurde mit Hilfe eines königlichen Kredites gedruckt; Louis XVI kaufte ihm für 30'000 Livres "l'intégralité de ses outils et horloges" ab, überliess ihm aber die Verwendung der Stücke. Die ungemein aufwendige Produktion seiner Pendulen, die nicht nur durch die Qualität des Werkes, sondern auch durch jene des Gehäuses und der Bronzen bestechen, liess eine jährliche Herstellung von ca. 30 bis 50 Objekten zu. Nachdem F. Berthouds Neffe die Führung des Ateliers übernommen hatte, wurde die Produktion erhöht. Die meisten noch erhaltenen Pendulen befinden sich heute in bedeutenden Museen wie zum Beispiel im Patrimonio Nacional in Madrid, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Musée Nissim de Camondo in Paris und im Museum der Angewandten Kunst in Wien. Die hier angebotene Pendule stammt wohl von Ferdinands Neffen Pierre-Louis Berthoud (1754–1813), genannt Louis, der bereits zu Lebzeiten den Betrieb seines Onkels führte und später übernahm. Im Sekundenzifferring exzentrisch angebrachtes weisses Emailzifferblatt für die Stunden- und Minuten. Werk mit Lepaute-Stiftengang sowie Halbstundenschlag auf Glocke. Kompensationspendel (Pendelfeder repariert, Spitze fehlt, Schraube auf Linse fehlt).30 × 19 × 48 cm.Gehäuse neu lackiert, Türen klemmen. Pendelfederhalterung unvollständig sowie umgebaut, ursprünglich wohl mit Schneideaufhängung. Teil des Stoppflügels abgebrochen. Diese Präzisionsuhr verfügt über ein aufwändiges und bemerkenswertes Werk mit sichtbarem Lepaute-Stiftengang, konstanter Kraft, zentralem Sekundenzeiger sowie Kalenderwerk und Äquationsgetriebe. Der Sekunden-Zifferring ist signiert von Breguet Paris. Auch weist die Uhr die typischen Breguet-Zeiger auf. Hingegen finden sich keine weiteren Signaturen auf der Uhr, ebensowenig eine Nummerierung. Auch geht man davon aus, dass die Signatur Breguet Paris nur bis 1791 verwendet wurde.Es existiert eine wohl identische Uhr im Centre National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, diese ist signiert von Griebel und wird auf ca. 1810 datiert. Bronze applications. Movement, in part skeletonized, with a large silvered chapter ring for the seconds, above a calendar and equation-of-time chapter ring. White enamel dial for the hours and minutes, placed eccentrically in the chapter ring for the seconds. Movement with Lepaute pin escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. Compensation pendulum (pendulum spring repaired, tip missing, screw on bob missing).30 × 19 × 48 cm.Case, newly painted. Doors, jammed. Pendulum spring support, incomplete and modified, originally probably with a different suspension. Part of the stop wing, broken-off. This precision clock has an elaborate and remarkable movement with a visible Lepaute pin escapement, constant power, a central second hand, and a calendar movement and an equation drive. The chapter ring for the seconds is signed Breguet Paris. The clock also features the typical Breguet hands. However, there are no other signatures on the clock, nor is the clock numbered. It is also assumed that the signature "Breguet Paris" was only used until 1791.An identical clock is on display in the Centre National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, signed by Griebel and dated to about 1810. Über den Jagddarstellungen sind in Kartuschen kleine Köpfe von Raubkatzen bzw. eines Königs dargestellt. Die nach unten leicht ausschwingenden Ecksäulen mit Akanthusblatt, die in Tatzenfüsse übergehen, verleihen der Uhr eine gewisse Eleganz. Die schöne Ausführung dieser Arbeit und die Qualität der Feuervergoldung deuten auf die Herkunft aus einem der grossen Zentren für die damalige Gold- und Silberschmiedkunst wie Nürnberg oder Augsburg. An extensive Art Deco silver and pale blue guilloché enamel dressing table set, Adie Brothers, Birmingham 1932, comprising pair of hairbrushes, pair of clothes brushes, pair of cut glass scent bottles, cut glass powder jar, hand mirror, pair of circular boxes, an easel back bedside clock, ashtray, comb, shoehorn, button hook, scissors and a nail file/see illustration CONDITION REPORT: Overall good appearance. One hairbrush has some chipping to enamels at corners, other has a small chip to one corner. One clothes brush has small flat chip to enamel edge. Other very minor flat chips to enamel on a few pieces like the circular boxes but it is hard to say if this is damage or a manufacturing issue. Mirror good. I am not sure I have ever seen a set this extensive in such good condition.

~ A George III Mahogany Striking Table Clock, signed John Meek, London, circa 1790, inverted bell top pediment with carrying handle, acorn finials, pierced side panels, front door with gilt metal cast mask mounts to the canted corners, bracket feet, one piece arch silvered brass dial, inner date ring with corresponding date hand, arch with strike/silent selection, twin fusee movement with verge escapement and rack striking on a bell, movement backplate elaborately engraved with scroll and floral decoration, movement secured in by brackets, bob pendulum, 55cm high see illustrations 09.02.21 Case with minor scratches and dents in parts, later side pierced frets with damages, front door top left hand corner with one piece of veneer missing and the gilt metal pierced mount is loose to the same corner, dial is discoloured, movement needs cleaning, in going order. No signs of a marriage. Later seatboard. In my opinion the dial and movements are original to the case.
