A Fine Late 17th Century Pull Quarter Repeating Verge Table Clock, signed John Bushman, London, circa 1695, the case with foliate cast brass and pierced basket top and carrying handle, above a moulded cornice, brass repousse sound side frets, pull quarter repeat cord and small vacant hole for the hour repeat cord (cord lacking) to the opposite side, mounts to the front door possibly later, rectangular moulded base raised upon later claw feet, 7-inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks and elaborate half hour marks, strike/not strike lever positioned above 12, matted dial centre with mock pendulum aperture revealing a silvered plaque signed John Bushman, London, date aperture surrounded by engraved scroll work, ringed winding holes, winged cherubs head spandrels, movement with seven baluster pillars and verge escapement, rack striking on a bell and pull quarter repeating on a nest of five bells, the backplate with foliate scroll work throughout and central cartouche signed by the maker, pierced apron, 45cm high see illustrations John Bushman (b.1691) has pieces in the V&A Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Ilbert Collection, etc. He was made a Brother of the Clockmakers Company in September 1692, and is thought to have worked as a clock and watch maker in London until 1725.
