Fine antique French 'Religieuse' table clock with a late 17th century French gilt brass verge Oignon pocket watch movement, signed - Jean Hubert à Rouen, au Grand Monarque. The chain fusee movement with Egyptian pillars, rack and pinion regulator, chased and engraved cock with inhabited foliage decoration, mock pendulum and plain steel balance, gilt metal dial with black Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches and inner ring with quarter and half hour divisions, the centre with raised foliate decoration and single blued-steel hand, in a late 18th / early 19th century gilt metal case of baluster form, overlaid with a pierced silver panel decorated with flower-heads, figures and birds and mounted with a gilt metal and mother of pearl crucifix and INRI scroll, angels and other figures and surmounted with a gilt metal military figure leaning on a spear, all on two mask-head scroll feet with easel back, 30cm overall height (keys lacking) CONDITION REPORT Watch movement is clean but screw heads are burred, pins bent and plates scratched. We are unable to confirm if it is in full working order but it does tick and mock pendulum moves. The gilt dial is good but there is some damage to the enamelling on numerals II, III and VI and X. The front glass surround and hinge may be original but the rear of the original case has been removed. The gilt metal baluster shaped case is dirty and finish is worn in places. Soldier's spear is slightly bent. There are signs of repair to the feather held by the left supporting angel. The mother of pearl on the crucifix is damaged and missing on top left hand of cross bar and at the base. There is a hole behind the figure's knees. Both scroll feet have been broken and repaired. Once of the lower standing figures is out of alignment. Overlaid pierced decoration is tarnished and has minor damage to left and right of watch dial. Rear of case is very dirty. Diameter of watch dial is 4.2cm, diameter of face bezel is 5cm. Overall height to top of spear is 30cm. Width across scroll feet is 13.5cm. Depth with easel strut open is 8cm
