As The Hours Pass: A Highly Unusual Mid to Late 18th Century Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the heavy sticks carved, pierced and gilded, the upper guards wide and each containing a portrait within an oval, covered with glass. The gorge sticks are shaped and several contain figures. The double vellum leaf is divided on the recto into sections, the central section quite slim, painted with a youth playing a pipe, above which is an oval containing a portrait of a lady, covered with mica. To the right, a homely scene of a lady at rest seated on a chair with her feet on a footstool, reading, a serious looking young boy in front of the fireplace, being observed by a white cat. On the wall is an embossed foil panel containing a clock, time set at ten to midday. To the left, a lady dozing in her chair, ignoring perhaps the gentleman attempting to serenade her leaning in through the window. A similar clock is above her side table. The reserves are set with a foil urn and flowers, and embroidered with gold sequins. The verso is painted with a rather crude countryside scene, to the left a man looking out from a building wearing a rather unusual hat, a lady with similar headwear plus a veil to the right, some colourful ducks on a riverbank to the fore. Guard length 24cmSome rubbing to the leaf, some patching to areas seen from the verso.

A Brass Horizontal Striking Alarm Table Clock, possibly German, second quarter of the 18th century, square brass case with embossed side panels depicting rearing deer among scroll and urn decoration, raised upon feet, 4-1/4-inch square brass dial with a Roman numeral chapter ring, inner alarm disc, vacant aperture below 12, scroll engraved borders and mask decorated corners, steel hands, single chain driven fusee movement with rack hour striking on a bell, single spring barrel for the alarm hammer striking the same bell, three armed balance, tic-tac form escapement, movement backplate stamped with maker's mark AMW within a shield cartouche, 77mm high by 12cm wide see illustrations . 19.06.18, Case is distressed, side embossed panels with small holes to the lower edges in parts, high relief embossed areas are rubbed, feet with damages and some repairs, dial with engraving rubbed in parts, dial is discoloured throughout, four pins in the alarm disc are missing, dial with one vacant aperture below 12, movement front plate with one vacant hole next to the hour striking hammer arbor, movement backplate with several vacant holes, movement is dirty, strike, alarm and the going train are not working, movement needs a service.

A Small Mahogany Quarter Striking Table Clock, signed Grimalde & Johnson Strand, London, circa 1820, arched pediment, front and sides with Greek key brass inlay and ebony inlaid stringing and details, beehive feet, 6-inch brass silvered dial with Roman numerals, serpentine hands, twin fusee movement with an anchor escapement, quarter striking with two hammers striking two graduated bells and striking the hours on the larger bell, movement backplate with engraved borders and signed, movement secured in by two brackets see illustration Grimalde & Johnson were in partnership and working at the Strand in London between 1810-1825.
