The elegant two-door coachwork was styled by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, a duo whose résumé included sports cars like the Aston Martin Virage. Five years later Bentley introduced a short-wheelbase version dubbed the Continental ‘T’ that was equipped with an uprated engine developing 420bhp and an impressive 650 foot-pounds of torque available at only 2,200 rpm. Bentley customers soon expressed interest in equipping the “wide-body” Continental R model with the T’s more powerful engine, and the Continental R Mulliner was consequently introduced at the 1999 Geneva Salon. The nomenclature was an homage to H.J. Mulliner, the British coachbuilder responsible for the original R-Type’s breath-taking fastback bodywork. The R Mulliner’s wide-body configuration offered spacious interior elegance, whilst the twin-turbocharged V8 could rocket the car to a top speed of nearly 170 mph, with brisk 5.6-second sprints to 60 mph from standstill. Individually tailored to customer order, the R Mulliner was Bentley’s ultimate 20th-century combination of luxury and performance, produced in a modest total quantity of 148 cars with 63 in right-hand drive. It's understood that this very handsome motor car is the only example produced in Sequin Blue, a shade of blue that represents modernity without vulgarity and a colour chosen perhaps deliberately by Bentley to represent their vision for the new millennium. It was first registered to Bentley Motors on the 29th November 2001 with the famous “1 WO” prefix, reserved for important launch or continuation cars and used for media purposes. Very few Bentleys over the years have been registered with “1 WO” and as the initials are those of founder Walter Owen Bentley, it is as good as an autograph in establishing any car thus-registered on the 102-year old Bentley family tree.  Complementing the rare shade of blue is the tinted turned-aluminium dashboard and inserts so very rarely seen in this model. The turned-aluminium dashboard has always been a feature of the sportier Bentleys, a nod to the 1930s racing Blowers, but can seem severe and industrial by today’s standards, this car’s subtle tint is both discreet and stylish, perfectly matched to the black leather seats and blue lambs wool rugs. After an exhaustive search for the 'right' Wide Body, our vendor, a lifelong Rolls and Bentley enthusiast, bought this car in July 2018, stabled initially alongside a very fine Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible. However, since the recent purchase of a new Bentley GT and using the Corniche for fair weather motoring the reluctant decision has been made to offer the “Conti” for the next enthusiast to enjoy.  The car’s service record shows a majority of Bentley main dealer services and the most recent service was carried out by Bentley Bristol on 10th December 2020. Bentley Bristol issued the MOT Certificate which is valid until January 2022. The history file includes handbooks, receipts, RREC-supplied build-sheets and a copy of Car Magazine 2001 where the Bentley was reviewed by comedian Alexei Sayle. A total of 473,289 were produced in 34 years in factories in both France and Belgium but were not sold in the UK in right-hand drive.The engine, gearbox and many smaller parts are well known from other Citroën models; the headlights and speedometer were identical to the 2CV for many years. The distinctive corrugated body work was inspired by the German Junkers aircraft of the 1930s with the ribs providing strength without adding weight and requiring only simple, low-cost press tools. The flat body panels were braced on the inside by 'top hat' box sections at right angles to the ribs. Rear hinged 'suicide' cab doors were used until the end of production in 1981.The HY pickup-configuration van presented here is from 1970 and was discovered in an original state in the South of France; the bodywork was exceptional for its age and, remarkably, it was still accompanied by its original tools and wheel-brace. Imported by a friend of our vendor (our vendor subsequently fell for this characterful van and bought it) with the intention of using it for his building firm, adding a bit of PR as it was driven around London. After restoration, which included a full respray and engine rebuild, with respected engineers at 'Autostore' of Cambridge, it was deemed just too good for a builder’s run-around.It has been thoroughly enjoyed and attracted much attention wherever it goes, but our vendor is finding he has less time to use it. Kupferstich auf Bütten, auf Japan aufgezogen. Blattmaße 89 x 66 cm. Von großer Seltenheit. - Obwohl die erste veröffentlichte Kopie der Unabhängigkeitserklärung am Abend des 4. Juli 1776 von John Dunlap angefertigt wurde, erschien die erste Version in gestochener anstatt gedruckter Schrift erst im Jahr 1818 und dies im Kontext eines wieder aufflammenden Patriotismus und Nationalstolzes nach dem Krieg von 1812. Nachdem Binns, der Herausgeber der republikanischen Zeitung The Democratic Press in Philadelphia, im Jahr 1816 seine geplante Publikation ankündigte und erste Subskriptionen entgegennahm, entstand ein wahrhafter Wettlauf zwischen ihm und seinem Rivalen Benjamin Owen Tyler um die Erstveröffentlichung. Als Binns sein Projekt 1819 abschloss, hatten bereits vier andere Drucker die Idee nachgeahmt und weniger dekorative und preiswertere Exemplare herausgegeben, darunter auch eine Raubkopie des vorliegenden Drucks von William Woodruff. Binns Druck trägt ein eingraviertes Faksimile-Attestat zur Exaktheit des Dokuments von John Quincy Adams, dem damaligen Außenminister: "I certify, that this is a Correct copy of the original Declaration of Independence, deposited at this Department; and that I have compared all the signatures with those of the original, and have found them Exact Imitations." Trotz aller Konkurrenz sticht Binns Druck als kunstfertigste und dekorativste Reproduktion der Unabhängigkeitserklärung hervor. - Geglättete horizontale und vertikale Falz mit Materialverlust. Mehrere hinterlegte Einrisse und Fehlstellen. Letztere teilweise mit modernen Nachdrucken restauriert. Zwei Braunflecken im linken oberen Blattrand. Splendid engraved Fac-simile with the Seals of the 13 States and Portraits of George Washington, John Hancock and Thomas Jefferson. Copper engraving on laid paper, mounted on Japan. - Of great rarity. - The first version in engraved facsimile version of the Declaration did not appear until 1818, and this in the context of a resurgence of patriotism and national pride after the War of 1812. After Binns announced his project in 1816 a veritable race ensued between him and his rival Benjamin Owen Tyler for first publication. By the time Binns completed his project in 1819, four other printers had already imitated the idea and issued less decorative and less expensive copies, including a pirated copy of the present print by William Woodruff. Binn's print bears an engraved facsimile attestation to the document's exactness from John Quincy Adams, then Secretary of State: "I certify, that this is a Correct copy of the original Declaration of Independence, deposited at this Department; and that I have compared all the signatures with those of the original, and have found them Exact Imitations." Despite the competition, Binn's print stands out as the most skilful and decorative reproduction of the Declaration of Independence. - Smoothed horizontal and vertical fold with loss of material. Several backed tears and missing parts. The latter partly restored with modern reprints. Two brown spots in the upper left margin.
