An 18th Century Oak Press Cupboard. The upper section having a moulded breakfront cornice above two cupboard doors with dome-topped fielded panels, opening to reveal internal hanging space extended into the box-form lower section with a rail of turned pegs to the back and two base drawers below, 81 ins (206 cms) high, 71½ ins (181 cms) wide, the cornice 27 ins (68 cms) deep.

Written for & inspired by, Vita Sackville-West, to whom the book is dedicated & who appears as Orlando at various life-stages in several of the book's photographs. Considering Woolf's time, an extraordinarily courageous achievement in English letters & fantastic literature. Attributed to Edward Lawton Moss, MD (Irish, 1843-1880) A collection of fourteen 19th century topographical watercolours to include exotic, coastal and mountainous landscapes and sketches, featuring Gibraltar, Malta, Anton Lizardo Mexico, Mexican Cordilleras, Isla de Sacrifios, Madeira, Greece and Ponta de Pico; together with a watercolour of a 'Maltan Lady'; a sketch of a Greek warrior in Fustanella; pen and ink figural sketches and a drawing of Giant's Causeway 'drawn by Miss Pike' one bearing Edward Lawton Moss's monogram lower right; some dated 1865; Sep '70; 16 Dec '78; June 1865; Feb 9 '70, 1870; watercolour, unframed Literature: Resurrecting Dr. Moss: The Life and Letters of a Royal Navy Surgeon, Edward Lawton Moss MD, RN, 1843-1880. By Paul C. Appleton, edited by William Barr. (Calgary: University of Calgary Press, 2008). Other Notes: Edward Lawton Moss was a naval surgeon and British Polar artist educated at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Appointed a surgeon with the Royal Navy in 1864, he developed a passion for painting during his extensive travels and explorations of various exotic locations. He was notably assigned to depict the feats of the British Arctic Expedition in 1875-1876 while aboard HMS Alert. His vivid account of the journey with accompanying illustrations was published in his "Shores of the Polar Sea: A Narrative of the Arctic Expedition of 1875". He perished in a tragic shipwreck off the coast of Barbados in 1880. One of the watercolours bears an inscription verso, corroborating its provenance: 'Original sketch lost in H. M. S. Bulldog, Cape Haitien, 23 October 1865. January 1866 Royal Adelaide'. Moss is known to have served aboard this ship, as illustrated by his depiction of HMS Bulldog Shelling the Forts at Cap Haiti on November 9th 1965. Some foxing. All loose and unframed. A George III mahogany press, with a dentil moulded cornice, slides to the interior, enclosed by panel doors with applied outline moulded decoration, above two short and two long drawers with brass handles, on square bracket feet 193 x 128 x 57cm (75 x 50 x 22in) A moulding is missing from one door panel and a moulding from the cornice.
A diamond encrusted heart-shaped pendant, the convex surface and articulated bale pavé set over the whole front with old round, cushion and mine cut diamonds, in white precious metal, verso similarly convex in yellow precious metal (no marks found) with circular press-in glazed panel with red foil lining; length including bale 3.3cm, width 2.8cm; total estimated weight of all old cut diamonds in excess of 4.50cts; gross weight 11.38g
