Bolivar played an important role in Latin America´s successful struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire, and is today considered one of the most influential politicians in the history of the Americas. D.S., Simon Bolivar, one page, folio, Lima, 2nd October 1823, in Spanish. The partially printed document is a military commission appointing Lieutenant Leon Galindo to be a Colonel of Infantry. Signed by Bolivar in his capacity as `Liberator President of the Republic of Colombia´. Bearing to the front a large red wax seal with clear impression, in good condition, protected by seven flower paper petals. With blank integral leaf. Edges very slightly irregular, and some overall water stain, not affecting legibility. G £1000-1500 Leon Galindo (1795-1865) Commander of the Bogota Battalion, 2nd Division, victorious in the decisive battle of Ayacucho on December 1824, under Commander in chief Antonio Jose Sucre.

L.S., Don Garcia, one page, folio, City of the Kings (Lima), 13th March 1590, in Spanish. Hurtado de Mendoza in his capacity as Viceroy and Governor of the new Kingdoms, refers in this manuscript letter about the taxes that have to be applied, the use of the amounts already collected, and the way to proceed with some land owners, money collection and salaries. Countersigned by Alvaro Ruiz. With edges trimmed and one large tear with small paper loss affecting few words of the text and not the signature. FR to G. £150-200
