The work takes the form of a dialogue between five 'foreigners' (English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese). Topics of conversation include industry and commerce, agriculture, and Portuguese antiquities and noble families. There is also much on notable places along the Lima river. The author was a physician and surgeon in Porto, who worked to disseminate medical knowledge throughout Portugal.
