Two English delft blue and white globular bottle vases. CIRCA 1760, PROBABLY LIVERPOOL. Each painted with two flowersprays and trailing foliage, the slender neck with geometric and floral decoration beneath pan-topped rims painted with a diaper-pattern band. 9s in. (24.8 cm.) high (2). Cf. Michael Archer, Delftware, The Tin-glazed Earthenware of The British Isles (Norwich, 1997), p. 275, E.17..
A miniature delft possett pot, probably Bristol, of squat cauldron form with lug handles, set on three feet and painted in red, green and blue with stylised flowers and foliage below a line, loop and husk border, 6.5cm. high, early 18th century, haircrack and flakes. *An identically modelled, though differently decorated, example is illustrated as plate 4.12, page 72, English Delftware in the Bristol collection, Frank Briton.
A delft flower brick probably Bristol, circa 1740 each side painted in blue with a fort on a shore flying a flag, two ships in the distance, at each end a bird perched on a flowering branch, the top pierced with twenty-one holes edged in dashes enclosed by trelliswork with crossed intersections 15.5cm., 6Bin. long minor damage A similarly decorated brick is illustrated by L.B.Grigsby, The Longbridge Collection of English Slipware and Delftware, p.415 pl.D374. Here it is noted the scene may depict Fort Chagres in the West Indies during a battle at which Vice Admiral Vernon took the Fort. An example with a similar painted scene was sold at Sotheby's London, 20th November 1979 lot 22.
A delftware Wet Drug Jar, first half 18th Century, with a label inscribed S:PAPAV:ERR: beneath a shell flanked by angels, an angel head beneath, 18cm The inscription is for syrupus of papaver erraticum, wild poppy, which, according to Culpepper ".... cools the blood, helps surfeits and may be given for frenzies, fevers and hot agues."
