(1820-1880) and thence by family descent The monogram "K" refers to Mr Hugh Kirkwood, a banker with the Thistle Bank which became part of the Union Bank of Scotland and is now part of Lloyds Banking Group. Mr Kirkwood was also factor to John Campbell Colquhoun of Killermont, part of the family of the Colquhoun's of Luss. Mr Kirkwood and his wife, Jessy lived in Killermont Cottage on the Colquhoun Estate. This chest and its contents was a wedding gift to the couple. Mr Kirkwood, an esteemed member of West of Scotland society laid the foundation stone of Partick Bridge, Glasgow.
