A VERY FINE 1:36 SCALE ADMIRALTY BOARD STYLE MODEL FOR THE SIXTH RATE 28-GUN SHIP ENTERPRISE [1774] modelled in alder wood, fruit wood and ebony, the framed hull planked and pinned, with ebony main wale, gun ports with cast brass guns in trucks with tackle, finely carved figurehead with carved decoration along bulwarks and stern, with trophies of arms, scrollwork, caryatids, glazed stern with ionic pillar supports, oxidised brass stern lights, the deck with details including bitts with belaying pins, gratings, stove pipe, belfry with inscribed and dated bell, well deck with fitted pinnace over with bottom boards, seats, gratings etc., bound cutaway masts, capstan, double helm with 12 turned spokes, compass box, swivel guns etc., mounted on ebonised cradle stand to wooden display base, overall -- 15 x 48in. (38 x 122cm.)Condition report: Very fine overall condition.
* GREGORY RANKINE (SCOTTISH b 1971), CUTTY SARK oil on board, signed 14cm x 20cm Mounted, framed and under glass. Titled on Compass Gallery, 178 West Regent Street, Glasgow label verso3 Note: In Burns' poem Tam o' Shanter (first published in 1791) the drunken Tam, riding home on his horse, happens upon a witches' dance. Among the dancing figures is a particularly beautiful young witch named Nannie (Scots pet form of Anna), "ae winsome wench and wawlie" (line 164). She is wearing a harn (linen) sark (nightshirt) which fitted her as a child (a "lassie") but is now rather too short for her. Artist: Gregory Rankine graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 and since that time has exhibited in the UK and abroad, including London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dublin, Limassol and New York. He undertook a six-month residency in Cyprus, exhibits at the RGI and RSA and was awarded the N.S. Macfarlane Trust Award at the Royal Scottish Academy in 2007. Rankine’s horses are not portraits of bloodstock, but evocations of the strength, elegance and movement embodied by the animal. Widely collected across the UK, Ireland, France, Finland and the US, Rankine’s work is in private and public collections, including The Woolwich, The Prince’s Trust and the University of Strathclyde.

A LARGE JAPANESE PRINTED MAP OF TOKYO MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY Orientated to the West and printed on four sheets of paper, showing the old centre of Edo with the Imperial palace and the mouth of the river Sumida, with areas and details picked out in red and blue and with a compass rose device, framed and glazed, 91cm x 64cm. The inscription in the lower left corner lists 'the eighteen most famous pine trees of Tokyo' with their locations and so this map was probably aimed at Japanese visitors sightseeing in the city.
A family group of medals comprising a WWI Military Medal, for 21231 Sjt: T.A. Brantingham. 22/Manch:R. with his 1914-15 trio named to 21231 Cpl. T.A. Brantingham. Manch.R. later Sgt. on the War and Victory Medals, with matching miniature medals, both sets mounted as worn. He was gazetted in the supplement of the 22nd January 1917, page 830, with many photographs of him in uniform, he was later promoted to Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Machine Gun Corps,also ephemera to include a silver M.G.C. cap badge with damaged lugs, collar dogs, a pocket compass marked 1915 etc, and a Mons Star trio for 5025 Pte. W. Brantingam. 9/Lrs, also his spurs, attestation parchment, he joined in 1909, and his medal packet. Presumably brother of Thomas above.

Slight creasing and handling marks to margins. Overall good.
