A MID-VICTORIAN JOHN BROADWOOD & SONS (LONDON) ROSEWOOD-CASED SEMI-GRAND PIANO, serial number 7478 (completed at the firm's Horseferry Road workshops, Westminster, 17th June 1871), model number 10, keyboard compass a to a, the octagonally-facetted tapering legs with foliate scroll-carved tops, brass caps and castors, with lyre-form foot pedal, 135cm x 227cm (approx) x 94cm high, (53in x 89.4in x 37in) (sold with a letter, dated 11th October 2003, from John Broadwood & Sons Ltd, tracing the serial number of the piano in response to an enquiry from the present owner. Having been completed on the date previously mentioned, the piano was sent out from Broadwood & Sons on 9th August 1871, having been purchased by a Mrs. J.J.Spedding of Greta Bank, Keswick. The list price was 125 quineas (£131-5/-) but was purchased for a cash payment of £118. The piano was sent by rail from Camden Town station in a specially-made packing case. Once at Penrith Station the last stage of the journey was made by horse and cart)
An early 20th century circular brass compass, by Stanley, London, detachable cover, folding sight, 11.5cm diam, c.1910; a 19th century four draw telescope, by J P Cutts, Optician to Her Majesty, 28cm cylinder, bound with Ôtortoiseshell', lacquered brass tripod stand, 106cm overall (3) **John P. Cutts was an important provincial maker, first encountered with at 58, Norfolk Street, Sheffield 1825-28 and thereafter at 43 Division Street to 1845 when he either died or retired. He was a domestic, mathematical and philosophical instrument maker, and supplied (according to his trade card) spectacles, telescopes, opera glasses, mathematical and nautical instruments, barometers, thermometer etc. The Queen to which he was appointed was Queen Adelaide and the inscription on the first draw clearly implies that she was still Queen and not dowager, making the date of the telescope c. 1830-37.
A Victorian Gold and Diamond Brooch, circa 1870, the old brilliant-cut diamond star set within circular boss, above oval mount with applied bead and rope-work detail, locket reverse; A Tourmaline and Pearl Brooch, circa 1900, the cushion-cut green tourmaline millegrain collet set between two pearls on knife edge bar; and An Amethyst and Half Pearl Pendant, the circular-cut amethyst millegrain collet set with four knife edge bar radiating at compass points with pearl set petals (3)

King, dated 1973, with silvered Roman numeral chapter ring and signed compass star engraved brass centre, in drum case resting on tooled leather covered slope calibrated for days of the week along the front edge, with column end supports and pyramid signature block mounted on the rectangular base with adjustable feet, 71cm long.
A mid-19th century Free Gardeners Friendly Society painted apron with central motif of Adam and Eve, flanked by two gardeners and the initials of the four rivers that flowed out of Eden, other motifs include the square and compass, the beehive (for Industry), the pomegranate (for plenty), and numerous other symbolic motifs, 65cm. x 49cm.

Maritime. A good silver plated desk ship's wheel timepiece and barometer, the drum cased back-to-back movements with white enamel dial including a thermometer (H/PB/N trademark) on rectangular plinth inset with a compass, 22cm h, c1900 Feint radial hairline crack to the clock dial which is hardly noticeable. The silver plating worn off in places showing brass but in otherwise fine original condition
A fine 19th century French ship's wheel and capstan reversible time piece barometer, with white enamel and dials inscribed WHYTOCK & SONS. PARIS, the top with a compass, the plinth on a canon ball set ratchet, brass plated in steel effect and gilded, the rectangular canted onyx base with blue grey enamel quartering. 8.1in. (20.5cm.)
A VICTORIAN INLAID BURR WALNUT LOO TABLE, having a quartered oval top with broad inlaid border of linked hexagonal motifs, the four compass points inlaid with similar larger motifs, on two pairs of fluted turned end standards, circular platforms linked by a turned stretcher, and four downswept feet with matching inlay, scroll feet and ceramic castors, 108cm x 64.5cm x 71cm high, (42.5in x 25.4in x 28in)
