A 9ct gold miniature model of two stringed instruments resting on a chair, a 9ct gold brooch in the form of a treble clef, two 9ct gold heart shaped padlock clasps, a 9ct gold St Christopher pendant, a 9ct gold pendant in the form of England, together with a .925 silver pill box in the form of a mandolin, a .925 model of a cello and a small collection of other miniature items.
A crocodile cello case, the lid with an applied silver coloured metal plaque inscribed 'AUGUSTE VAN BIENE', with a red velvet lined interior 51in (129.5cm) l. Auguste Van Biene was born on the 16th May 1849 in Rotterdam, he studied cello with Adrien Francois Servais in the Brussels Conservatory and at the age of 15 began playing as a section cellist with the Rotterdam Opera House orchestra. In 1867 he left for London and for about 10 years he made his living by playing in the cello sections of several orchestras, eventually becoming principal cellist in the Costa Orchestra, he eventually formed his own opera company and by the 1880s was chiefly involved in theatrical management and ended up becoming an actor and playwright under the stage name of Henri Tempa. He died on the 23rd January 1931 in the Brighton Hippodrome whilst performing a cello recital.
A group of three Edwardian silver novelty models of cats, one playing the 'cello, the second the cymbals, both with hinged heads, bearing import marks for London, 1901, maker TH, the third modelled standing and hissing with his tail upright, bearing import marks for Chester, 1906, heights 5 to 6cm, total weight 4.5oz.
A Sevres Porcelain Cup and Saucer, painted by Charles-Nicolas Dodin, circa 1778, the cylindrical cup painted with three musicians at a harpsichord and playing the violin, the saucer painted with an interior scene with drums, a cello, a music stand and a chair near a window, both against dark blue grounds with cisele-gilt scroll, paterae and floral swag decoration, blue painted interlaced Ls enclosing AA, painter's mark k, gilder's mark for Michel- Barnabe Chauvaux, the saucer 14.8cm diameter, the cup 7.5cm high See illustration. Provenance: The Wolfe Collection, Tennants Auctioneers, Spring Catalogue Sale, 22-24 April 1998, lot 282.
