Bent, lacking winding key. (2) Plastic Golliwog puppet shaped like the puppets on the revolving wheel, w. moving eyes and dress, height 25 cm. Face dented. (3) Col. porcelain jazz band, consisting of a singer/ violinist (height 9 cm, lacks part of his right arm), saxophone player, accordeonist, drummer, cello player and banjo player. -and 22 others, incl. a pair of bookstands and 7 magic lantern plates. Music Mstislav Rostropovich signed 1991 Glasgow Recital Cover. Russian cellist and conductor. In addition to his interpretations and technique, he was well known for both inspiring and commissioning new works, which enlarged the cello repertoire more than any cellist before or since. He inspired and premiered over 100 pieces,[citation needed] forming long-standing friendships and artistic partnerships with composers including Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Henri Dutilleux, Witold Lutos?awski, Olivier Messiaen, Luciano Berio, Krzysztof Penderecki, Alfred Schnittke, Norbert Moret, Andreas Makris, Leonard Bernstein, Aram Khachaturian, and Benjamin Britten. Rostropovich was internationally recognized as a staunch advocate of human rights and was awarded the 1974 Award of the International League of Human Rights. He was married to the soprano Galina Vishnevskaya and had two daughters, Olga and Elena Rostropovich. He received numerous accolades, including a Polar Music Prize. Good condition. SHOSTAKOVICH DMITRI: (1906-1975) Russian Composer. An excellent and rare signed musical score, with multiple annotations in Shostakovich´s hand, being the score for cello of his work Seven Romances on Poems by Alexander Blok, for soprano, violin, cello and piano, op.127 (1967). Printed paper cover musical score, signed `D. Shostakovich´, in Cyrillic, seven pages, folio, n.p., n.d., with titles in Cyrillic. Signed by the author to the title page, also adding several musical annotations and corrections in his hand, in red ink. Among others, to the fifth page, Shostakovich changes the title of the seventh Romance, replacing The Night by Music. An excellent working musical score. Overall age wear, with one of the sheets reinforced to the edge, otherwise G The premiere of Seven Romances on Poems by Alexander Blok, for soprano, violin, cello and piano took place on 23rd October 1967 at the Moscow Conservatory, and was performed by Galina Vishnevskaya to whom the work was dedicated, as soprano, by Mstislav Rostropovich as cellist, by David Oistrakh as violinist and with the Composer, Shostakovich, playing the piano. The present score provenance is from the collection of Nadejda Yurievna (1933-2006) a well-known Russian singer of Romances and chamber music.
ROSTROPOVICH MSTISLAV: (1927-2007) Russian Cellist & Conductor. A set of two signed documents, being a signed photograph and a signed colour printed programme. A good signed 5 x 7 photograph of Rostropovich, the image showing the Russian artist in a head and shoulders smiling pose. Signed in bold silver ink `M. Rostropovich´, also dated 1999 in his hand. Together with a good small 4 x 6 colour printed programme, six pages, corresponding to a J.S. Bach cello concert, celebrated in Dusseldorf in December 1987 with Rostropovich as soloist. As such, some of the records will contain warps with some of the sleeves displaying fire damage - this ranges from very light (occasionally a bit of 'soot' that be cleaned) to a heavier 'singed' effect. As a general rule of thumb, it should be considered roughly 1/3 of the collection will show some signs of fire damage (either with the record or sleeve showing signs of this - please see overhead pictures of the collection as a representative example). Elsewhere the collection was clearly well stored and a sample of the 'non damaged' titles checked appear in clean VG+ to Ex+ condition.
