A 19th Century Meissen six-piece monkey band, on gilt scroll bases and a similar monkey band figure, 15cm high and smaller (damages)/Provenance: Plas Gwyn, Anglesey Condition Report: Cello player – slight chipping to corners of tricorn hat, loss to top of cello neck, right arm missing, signs of old restoration around stump, right foot missing, signs of old restoration to area, slight chipping around foot rim, blue crossed swords mark beneath and impressed no. ?47 Recorder player – slight chipping to edge of blue coat, left leg lower half missing, right foot tip and toes missing, section of base has been reglued, impressed number beneath Hurdy gurdy player – section of hat brim missing to each side and signs of restoration to brim and plume, left hand and neck of instrument missing, right arm missing, signs of earlier restoration to those areas, section of blue drape missing, chip to lower part of blue drape, firing cracks to legs, slight chip to tip of stump, toes missing from left foot, firing cracks to base, blue crossed swords and impressed no. 47 under Seated female figure – left arm missing from below shoulder, right hand and wrist missing, firing crack beneath, blue crossed swords mark and impressed no. 42 under Standing figure in orange waistcoat – extensive restoration and slight chipping to tricorn hat, blemish to glaze by mouth, left arm missing from below shoulder, old restoration visible to that area, chipping to cuff of right sleeve and slight chips to edges of coat, two small chips to edge of base, blue crossed swords mark under Figure carrying drums – loss to plume of turban, flat chip to top edge of one drum, other chipping to fringed border of drums, big toe missing from right foot, slight chip to right hand, tail of rope missing from beneath left hand, chipping to edge of base, blue crossed swords mark and impressed no. 47 Standing figure in yellow waistcoat – slight chipping to rim of tricorn hat, left and right arms missing from just below shoulder, right stump with signs of old restoration, blue crossed swords mark and impressed no. 44 Overall this monkey band is in need of restoration
CASALS PABLO: (1876-1973) Spanish Cellist. A good vintage signed 5 x 7 photograph of Casals seated in a full length pose playing his cello in a church during the Prades Festival. Photograph by Studio Libold of Prades and bearing their credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('Pablo Casals') in bold fountain pen ink with his name alone to the lower border. VG
Music score setting of John Drinkwater's poems "Birthright" and ( Sir Edward, composer and conductor, 1857-1934) Music score setting of John Drinkwater's poems "Birthright" and "Moonlit Apples", autograph manuscript music, first melody for first verse of poem and 2 bars of piano introduction in ink, and second a very rough sketch in pencil, re-used music paper taped together and with Elgar's autograph for another musical piece, "Cello", "CB", "Piano" in left hand margin, browned, 442 x 276mm., [1934] § Blake (Carice, Elgar's daughter, 1890-1970) Autograph Letter signed to John Drinkwater, 2½pp., Marl Bank, Worcester, 17th August 1934, sending Drinkwater the above music sketches, "I have found the sketches - very rough - of the settings by my father of your poems it seems very fitting that you should have them. Might I venture to suggest that, if ever any question arose of the poems being set to music, that somebody else should be asked to set them. I do not think that these as they stand are complete enough to be made use of & I feel my father would not have wished them finished by anyone," folds, slightly browned (2). Unfinished and unpublished.
Ex Christopher Hogwood - Single-manual harpsichord by Thomas Culliford for Longman & Broderip, London, 1782, the case of mahogany with boxwood stringing, the lid with brass strap hinges, the key well veneered with panels of burr walnut with boxwood stringing and kingwood crossbanding, the fascia board extensively inlaid with scrolling foliage and a central urn, the soundboard with inset gilt-metal rose pierced and carved with King David playing the harp and with the pierced inscription Longman & Broderip Cheapside, the five octave keyboard, FF to f3 omitting FF sharp, with ivory naturals with boxwood mouldings and ebony accidentals, seven brass-knobbed hand stops with ivory caps inscribed with their function, six controlling the harp stop, 8ft lute stop, two 8ft stops, a 4ft stop and a 'mute' (dummy) stop, the seventh in the left cheek controlling the machine stop together with the left-hand pedal, the right-hand pedal controlling a swell mechanism operating on a secondary internal lid, with music desk, on trestle stand, with canvas cover. Inscribed on a boxwood plaque on the name batten Longman and Broderip, Musical Instrument Makers 26 Cheapside London and on the reverse of the name batten Thos. Culliford, Maker, 3 Fountain Court, Cheapside, London, February 1782. Length 7' 2?", 219.3cm; width 3' 3?", 100.9cm This instrument is one of only three known to have been made by Culliford with both a machine stop and a lid swell, one of the others being in The Mobbs Keyboard Collection, Golden Bay, New Zealand. The current location of the other one is not recorded. Culliford was the great-grandfather of the author Charles Dickens. Continental porcelain monkey band including fifteen musicians, four choristers and a conductor. (20) Condition Report Blue coat/cello player: bright colour, no obvious repairs or losses. 'V20225' and '26' to the base. Yellow coat/playing banjo: No repairs or damage obvious and appears in good condition. 'V20226' and '25' to the base. White jacket/bongo drums: No damages obvious and looks well. 'V20219' and '33' to the base. Pink coat/playing piano: Good condition. 'V20407' and '16'? to the base. Green coat/trumpet player: In excellent condition. 'V20213' and 'm' to the base. Red coat/beaters: Appears well, possibly rubbed around the knees. 'V20218', '5' and '38' to the base. Drum player: Good, bright condition. 'V20217' and '33' to the base. Yellow coat/banjo: Good, clear condition. 'V20224' and '37' to the base. White coat: Generally good condition. 'V20221' and '38' to the base. Blue coat/arms aloft: Monkey's left arm has previously been off and is poorly repaired. Fingers of the same arm are broken off and not present. 'V20213' to the base. Blue coat/playing flute: In good, bright condition with no obvious loss or damage. Green coat/holding music: Lost big toe on left foot. Otherwise in good, bright condition. The other eight figures are in good, bright condition and have no immediate problems/losses. It appears only two of the twenty figures have any significant damage or losses.

The cars boxed are in good condition overall but not mint. Some do have wear and appear to have been used / played with.
