Sir John Lawrence (1811-1879), British Imperial statesman who served as Viceroy of India, autograph letter, signed and dated 27th July 1857. Lord Curzon (1859-1925), British Conservative statesman, autograph letter on headed paper (Hatfield House, Herts), signed and dated May 29 1896. James Broun-Ramsay, 1st Marquess of Dalhousie (1812-1860), Scottish statesman who served as Governor-General of India, autograph letter, signed 'Dalhousie', dated October 1854, addressed to a Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence. George Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll (1823-1900), Scottish peer and Liberal politician, autograph letter, signed and dated 1872, the paper bearing an 'India Office' blind-stamp. Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850-1942), member of British Royal Family who served as Governor General of Canada, autograph letter signed and dated July 8th 1889, on paper headed 'Government of Bombay'. Michael Hicks Beach, 1st Earl St Aldwyn (1837-1916), British Conservative politician known as "Black Michael", autograph letter on headed paper (Netheravon, Salisbury), signed and dated October 2 1889, complete with original envelope bearing postmarks for Board of Trade and Windsor. John Evelyn Denison, 1st Viscount Ossington (1800-1873), Speaker of the House of Commons, autograph letter in black ink, 'Speaker's House, Westminster'. Frederick Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, 1st Marquess of Dufferin and Ava (1826-1902), Viceroy of India, autograph in black ink on slip of paper trimmed from correspondence, headed 'Viceroy's Camp'. Thomas Baring, 1st Earl of Northbrook (1826-1904), British Liberal statesman and Viceroy of India who was dedicated to upgrading the quality of government in the British Raj, autograph letter in black ink on headed paper (Stratton, Micheldever Station), signed and dated May 27 1897: 'Dear Colonel Impey, I will write to Lord George Hamilton to give my testimony to your good services in India when I was Viceroy'. Arthur James Balfour, 1st Earl of Balfour (1848-1930), British statesman who served as Prime Minister, autograph letter ink black ink, signed and dated October 3rd 1899, headed paper (10 Downing Street) with blind-stamped crest for 'First Lord of the Treasury', together with an earlier letter, signed and dated January 17th 1894, on paper headed '4, Carlton Gardens'. Also six documents for the "Proposed Old Etonian Club", each bearing a signature for the person wishing to be placed on the General Committee. CARLTON WARE; an 'Orange Lightning' biscuit barrel, height 16.5cm, and a 'Green Chevron' powder bowl and cover, height 13cm, both with printed marks (2). CONDITION REPORT: Orange Lightning with two chips to rim underside, losses to painted decoration throughout, especially where lid meets body, large hairline to both exterior and interior. Green Chevron with numerous hairlines visible to body exterior, small hairline to one end of handle on lid, rubbing and abrasions where lid meets body, rubbing to painted decoration, both crazed with manufacturing imperfections and surface wear throughout, restoration to both pieces. This lot can be shipped in medium box at a cost of £21.60 including VAT to the UK.

BERMUDA Postal History: Small selection comprising a 1708 copy of a letter addressed 'To the Queen's most Excellent Majesty' making representation regarding legal matters on Bermuda, an affidavit dated 1807 signed by John Van Norden (Mayor of St George) regarding the 'ownership' of a "Negro man", an 1813 letter from the Captain of HMS San Domingo which was in the West Indies at that time, 1825 June 14th m/s order approving General Hilgrave Turner as the Governor & Commander in Chief of the Bermudas, and a similar item dated 1831 August 10 approving the appointment of Sir Stephen Remnant Chapman as the Governor & Commander in Chief of the Bermudas, both signed 'Bathurst' (William Bathurst was Clerk to the Privy Council), and are headed 'At the Court at Carlton House' and At the Court of St James' respectively, a telling piece of social history, generally in good condition
