The Gladstone House, an impressive English dolls house of five bays and three storeys. Original painted brick work with overpainted cream pillars. The interior with original wallpapers and wooden fireplaces with metal grates. The kitchen with a metal range and bread oven. The kitchen sugar bag blue painted. Internal doors with applied panels and finger plates. Carpets worked in needlepoint especially for the house. One room has hanging oil lamp, another a gasolier with milk glass shades. A well made staircase rises from the hall to the top of the house. The original contents including a kitchen dresser marked H.W. Morrell, Burlington Arcade, a Dutch oven, sink, tinplate candle and snuffer and rare knife cleaner. Dining room has Waltershausen type table and chairs, Goode Bros miniature History of England, three gilt framed pictures, filigree metal hanging shelves and clock and three bisque headed men dolls with moulded hair. Centre drawing room with suite of lithographed furniture, grandmother doll and young woman, and a bird cage on stand. The bedroom has a fine Rock & Graner bed, a writing desk with ormolu mounts, bisque headed maids and many more rare pieces. The house was originally consigned to auction by a descendant of John Hall Gladstone 1827-1902, Miss Susan Byrne Holmes. It was purchased and furnished for his daughters, one of whom married Ramsey MacDonald. sold with research papers on family and old photographs of house. The house circa 1865 with contents added until 1900. 39in H x 39in W x 15in D. With a wooden stand.
