FIRST AND SECOND WAR RFA MILITARY CROSS GROUP OF FIVE AND ARCHIVE TO CAPTAIN N. S. KINNERSLEY, comprising Military Cross, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Defence Medal and Special Constabulary Medal, together with MC box of issue, miniature group, British Legion badge, ARP badges, note book, various range tables and drill pamphlets, engineer's plans for two various Frist Army concrete or Pill Boxes, embarkation orders, citation etc, ARP, studio and unit photographs, 1916 dated Somme trench and sector fire map, dozen or more further trench maps, barrage maps, Field Service Regulations, Wellington's Men, a quantity of Postcards, his sword and various shell cases. Citation reads - For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in keeping the enemy at bay for a considerable time by laying over open sights whilst subjected to heavy rifle and machine gun fire. He succeeded in evacuating the wounded before retiring and passed through valuable information from time to time.

Hopwood. A.O.C.), extremely fine with card boxes of issue and enveloped addressed to ‘Mr F. Hopwood, Elmdon, Saffron Walden, Essex ‘, with M.I.D. oakleaves, Royal Observer Corps lapel badge, certificate of service, M.I.D. certificate, Observer Corps certificate and other related paperwork, together with a bronze memorial plaque to his brother ‘Ernest Richard Hopwood’ and British War Medal (34020 Pte. E.R. Hopwood. Wilts R.), plus condolence slip and card envelope, a shoe box of letters written by Ernest to his family c.1916-17, mostly on YMCA headed note paper from Poona, India, a leather sam browne belt and souvenir silk picture and other related items (Qty: a carton)NOTES013277 Lance Corporal Fred Hopwood, M.S.M., M.I.D., was born in 1892 he joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 1 November 1915, he received his M.I.D. for ‘gallant and distinguished service in the field’ (2 November 1917, he was awarded the M.S.M. for service in Mesopotamia and it was gazetted on 11 October 1918. Howood re-engaged for service in WWII serving with the Royal Observer Corps. 34020 Private Ernest Richard Hopwood served during WWI with 5th Bn, Wiltshire Regiment, he died on 5 October 1918 at King George’s War Hospital, Poona, India (a photograph of his grave is included in the lot). Hopwood is buried in Poona (St. Sepulchre’s Cemetery) India.

Silvered faceted Thistle star mounted with gilt crowned oval motto (LACESSET), thistle sprays with Sphinx below; St. Andrew and Cross to centre. Flanking scrolls “THE ROYAL HIGHLANDERS” and “BLACK WATCH”with supplementary swag scroll below “1st VOLUNTEER BATTALION”. Two loops to reverse. VGCHQ at Dundee. Boer War Princess Christian’s Army Nursing Service Reserve badge.A scarce unmarked silver 1897-1907 example. The front depicting a lined Geneva cross within a circlet inscribed “PRINCESS CHRISTIAN’S ARMY NURSING RESERVE” and thistle, oakleaf, shamrock and rose devices between each arm. Original stout pin fixing to reverse which is impressed with issue number. Some service wear, GCVendor States Issued to Catherine Terry. Registered March 19th 1900, trained King College Hospital. Hand selected to go out to South Africa with The Field Force of Princess Christian Army Nursing Reserve. She was awarded the QSA with a “Cape Colony” Clasp and the KSA with two clasps.
