Medals, documents and memorabilia from the estate of Colonel Glenn Herbert Hathaway, U.S. Army number 0 985 823, to include Purple Heart Medal with document for wounds received in action near Weingartern Germany 13th July 1945, WW2 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, WW2 Victory Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, National Defence Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Joint Services Commendation medal, also included is a Combat Infantry Badge, Hathaway's pair of Dog tags, rank ribbon with each grade of rank from Lieutenant to Colonel, two swagger sticks one fitted with a 1943 dated .50 calibre round, Hathaway's 1960's Field Grade Officer Parade visor hat, a certificate honouring the memory of Glenn Hathaway issued by Ronald Regan, Memorial record from Hathaway's funeral April 11th 1983, also a oil on canvas portrait of Colonel Hathaway signed 'Rembrandt Kim' 45cm x 38cm, also two circular trays and a footed salver (32cm and 16cm diameters) with presentation inscriptions to Hathaway.

Rev: smoothed and engraved with Royal Flying Corps wings over a badge over a ribbon inscribed with the PER ARDUA AD ASTRA motto. S. 4014 (for coin). 1.93 grams. The Royal Flying Corps, which served as the flying force of the British Army, was founded in 1912 and was amalgamated with the Royal Naval Air Service in 1918 to become the Royal Air Force. Colonel George Rainier Crawford, CB (1862-1915) the son of Major Francis Haden Crawford of the 98th Regt, married Miss Katherine Maude Bladen, Superintendent of the Victorian Home for Nurses, Cheltenham in 1907. In 1914 he applied for reinstatement but, being deemed too old for active service was appointed Hon Colonel of the 10th Bn West Riding Regiment. He died on 22 August 1914 and is buried in Leckhampton churchyard.

The box of issue is addressed to Miss McDonald of 2 Intake Square, Middleton Leeds 10 Yorks. ATS cap badge and collars, QMAAC & ATS old comrades association badge. Gordon Highlanders badge, enamel sweethearts badge etc. St Johns Ambulance Association bronze medal named to 480915 Mary E McDonald, with additional bars etc. The 1939/45, Africa (bar 8th Army) Italy Stars and War Medal, with Condolence Slip awarded to 7892588 S.Q.M.S.McDonald .John. Interestingly the slip is marked 5-1 awards, requiring further research. A TA lapel with the number 291711, a Royal Tank Corps badge and sweethearts badge both Fear Naught motto. An original glazed photograph of the 45th Royal Tank Regt (Leeds Rifles) Sgts Mess Egypt 1942, all officially named in type below. 17.1/4" x 13.1/2". A photograph of John McDonald as a Corporal C1942 with three service stripes and slouch hat. A presentation book, Royal Armoured Corps Italian Campaign 1943 to 45. Goldsmiths and Jewellers to the Crown. 25 Haymarket Street London, under the pin back mounts. Ghuznee medal on a pin back buckle mount, named to Lieut H W Stisted. H M 2nd Regt of Foot. India General Service medal 1854 with bar Persia, impressed naming to Col H W Stisted 78th Highlanders. Indian Mutiny medal with the bars Lucknow and Defence of Lucknow. Officially named to Lt Col H W Stisted CB 78th High'rs. Again it is mounted with a pinback buckle mount. Lieutenant General Sir Henry William Stisted was the son of Colonel Charles Stisted KH 3rd Hussars and Eliza Mary who was born in 1789. The daughter of Major General William Burn of Exeter Devon. Born in St Omer France during 1817 he was educated at Sandhurst and commissioned 4th December 1835 into the 2nd Foot. He served with that regiment in Afghanistan and Beloochistan (Beluchistan) taking part in the Storming of Ghuznee, where he was wounded in the action at the gateway. Harts Army List 1860. Ensign 4/12/1835. Lt 29/9/1838. Capt 29/4/1842. Major 26/1848. Lt Col 19/4/1850. Colonel 25/11/1854. War Service. Colonel Stisted served with the Queens Royals during the campaign in Afghanistan & Belooch under Lord Keane , including the storming and capture of Ghuznee (wounded) and of Kelat (medal for Ghuznee issued) . Served with the 72nd Highlanders during the Persian War in 1857, commanded a Brigade in the night attack and Battle of Kooshab (CB), and the 78th at the bombardment of Mohumrah. Served with Havelocks column in 1857, present in the action at Bithor, commanded the regiment in several actions leading to and ending in the relief of the Residency at Lucknow. The Capture of Khelat and the occupation of Kabul, for which he received the medal. On the 19th April 1850 he was gazetted Lieutenant Colonel in the 78th Foot. He served with them during the Persian War of 1856 and 1857. He commanded a Brigade in the night attack and battle of Mohamurah, after which he received the thanks of the Governor General, as well as the medal and clasp. He commanded the advance guard of Havelock's Force at the Relief of Lucknow 25th September 1857. Upon the death in battle of Brigadier General James George Smith Neill, he was appointed to command the First Brigade . A post which he held until the close of the operations. On January 1st 1858 he was nominated Commander of the Bath.. In that year he served in Rohiland, and commanded the Second Brigade at the Battle of Bareelly on the 7th of May. Mentioned in Kayes & Mallesons History of the Indian Mutiny in Vol 1V on pages 241 (Bareli) Against the rebels so encamped Outram started on the morning of the 22nd, with a force consisting of 1227 Infantry under Brigadier Stisted. Also 190 Cavalry under Major Robertson, and six nine-pounder guns, under Olpherts. At daybreak he came upon them. Sending his centre against their main position, with his left he drove them from Ghali, doubling back on Badrap. Surprised the rebels scarcely attempted resistance as these manoeuvres were being carried out. They lost their four guns and an elephant. At Badrup Stisted again attacked them, and forced them to relinquish their hold. On that day many casualties were inflicted on the rebels, Outram had only two men killed and eight wounded. Page 367 Sir Colin Campbells force had among other troops, Brigadier Stisted's seven companies of the 64th Ft & the 78th Highlanders for the attack on Bareli, who fought in the first line. It goes on to report the battle against the fanatical Ghazis among other rebels in this action. He became Lieut Colonel of the 93rd Highlanders on the 30th/9/1859, and served with the Frontier Force against the mountain tribes on the North West Frontier of India in December 1863. Appointed Major General in 1864 and Divisional Commander of British Forces in Canada 1866. Appointed Lieut Governor of Ontario in June 1869. He was instrumental in opening up the northern part of the province for development. For his services in this capacity he received the thanks of the Governor General of Canada, and was nominated a KCB on the 20th May 1871. On the 5th February 1873 he was appointed Lieutenant General and nominated Colonel of the 93rd Foot on the 28th September 1873. He died in Wood House, Upper Norwood, Surrey on the 10th December 1875. He had married in 1845 in Florence, Maria Katherine Eliza Burton (1823-1894), the sister of Sir Richard Francis Burton the famous explorer. Another brother Captain E J N Burton's Indian Mutiny Medal appears in another lot. Their daughter Georgina Martha Burton, wrote the book 'The True Life of Captain Sir Richard Burton. He is buried in West Norwood Cemetery, being the only Lt Governor of Ontario not buried in the province. See Illustration
A M-GENERALS FULL DRESS UNIFORM etc. A Gt War period full dress uniform with Generals rank full dress coat, trousers, epaulettes, boots. Scarlet and gold bullion sash, full dress tunic with bullion elbow - cuff ornate decoration, Victorian RAMC sidecap with gilt/silver cm badge. A Generals grey cloth overcoat, with GV buttons. All contained in a tin trunk. The items in this lot were worn by Major General Louis Edward Anderson CB, later D D M S Southern Command India. Born 27/3/1861 at Roden Place Dundalk, educated at Dundalk School and Qualified at the College of Surgeons Dublin in 1881. Too young for the army he sailed as a Ships Doctor, for six voyages. 1881-84. He served in the Soudan Expedition December 1884 (Medal with two clasps-Khedives Star) . Thence to India and served in the Tochi Valley (Medal & clasp). Served in the South African War (QSA with two clasps including Defence of Mafeking). KSA with two clasps MID LG 8/2/1901. Surgeon General 1912-Major General in 1919. War Medal 1914-18 for service in Ireland until 1916, thence India. CB 1913. Full copied details available.

A large quantity of original photographs of Mjr Heppell in various periods of the war and with various soldiers/commandos etc. A 1957 photograph of Mjr Perry with the 109 Glamorgan Army Engineer Regt TA. His original Commission Scroll dated the 18th September 1939 2/Lt Territorial Army. Framed images and Dunkirk Medal award scroll etc. Framed Mention in Despatches original Certificate Captain (temp) W J R Keppell Royal Engineers LG date 9th August 1945. Wall plaques Royal Engineers, No 4 Commando etc His 1897 pattern GV1 cypher Sword and post war Commando Dagger both with their scabbards are with the group. The hilt of the dagger is the blackened ring 3rd type, the frog lacks its elastic No 1 in pommel. His military compass, leather walking out stick with internal plumb line, and Services booklet.

Admiral Lynch (1911-1988) was born in Boston, educated at Boston College receiving a law degree. He joined the Royal Navy in 1935 and became a bomber pilot. During WWII he served in the Pacific with 8th Bomber Squadron as a pilot of dive bombers and torpedo planes. He received the Navy Cross when as a pilot of a SBD Dauntless dive bomber in Bombing Squadron Eight of USS Hornet he scored a direct hit on the Japanese cruiser Mikuma during the Battle of Medway on 6 June 1942. He was awarded the DFC for sinking an enemy submarine during combat in the Solomon Islands on 6 September 1942, he also received the Air Medal and Gold Star in lieu of a second Air Medal, the first for leading a fight of scout bombers of the USS Hornet in action against Japanese forces and scoring a direct hit on enemy cruiser Chikuma near Santa Cruz Island on 26 October 1942, and the second for meritorious achievement as leader of a division and pilot of scout-bombers during a raid on Japanese forces in the Guadalcanal and Rekata Bay area in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire destroying twelve enemy float seaplanes and shore installations including gasoline dumps. He also received the Legion of Merit as Operations Officer on the Staff of a Carrier Task Group. Post War service saw Lynch attending the Naval War College, transferring to Washington in 1947 and assigned to the Pentagon, during the Korean War he served as Executive Officer and Operations Officer of the USS Lake Champlain and later was the Naval attache at the US embassy in Moscow. Lynch commanded the aircraft carrier Coral Sea in 1960 and had various other land and sea duties in the 1960s. He was chief of staff of the US strike command at McDill Air Force Base in Florida where he was awarded the second Legion of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal, he retired from service in 1970. Pearse & Co., Army Clothiers of London helmet with Haddingtonshire Rifle Volunteer Corps badge, with metal helmet case. CONDITION REPORT: Helmet has it's spike. No obvious moth damage. Helmet plate appears original. The general condition is very good. It would appear to have spent most of it's life in the accompanying tin.

WW2 Polish 5th Kresowa Infantry Division Battle Dress Blouse, being a Canadian made example with embroidered POLAND nationality shoulder titles, 5th Kresowa division formation sign and 8th army formation sign. Collar has orange and green cloth collar pennons. Breast pocket has metal breast badge for the 5th Kresowa division. Large medal ribbon to above breast pocket including Virtuti Militari, Cross of Valour, Monte Cassino medal plus others. Shoulder boards have two bullion bars and two metal stars. Interior has ink stampings and is dated 1945. Battle dress shows very little service wear which would indicate this is the walking out pattern.
