WW2 Japanese Army Steel Combat Helmet with Original Cover and Net, standard type 90 combat helmet complete with its original three piece brown leather liner. Cloth tie straps. Japanese characters inked to liner pad. Interior of the shell retains much of the original brown paint finish. Helmet has the original cloth camouflage cover with cloth badge to the front. Also complete with the interesting two colour camouflage net. Some staining and wear to the cover and net.

Medal group: India G.S. Service, 39/45 Star; Italy Star; Africa Star; Defence; War Medal; three shooting and boxing medals, EPNS tankard 'PTE S. WESTON' R.W.F 1922 All items from Sgt Weston Parachute Regt. World War Two 1st Pattern Denison Para smock, 1942 dated. World War Two MKII steel helmet 1941 dated (no liner) World War Two British binoculars 1941, World War Two German Walther P38 pistol holster, maker 'LYO' with RAD cap badge taped to it. World War Two British kit bag named to 'Sgt Weston' Medals: 39/45 Star; Defence; War Medal General Service Medals to Guardsman R.W. Masefield Grenadier Guards Sgt S. Weston was the vendor's father. In 1921 he joined the army underage at 17 and took his eldest brother's name, Robert Handel Weston. Despite being English, he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers (for which the regiment constantly teased him). When asked why he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers his response was "It's the only regiment leaving the country". During WWII he was promoted to Sergeant and joined the 2nd Independent Paratrooper regiment. During the landings at Taranto, Italy, the amphibious landing craft that he was on hit a mine. Most of the men perished or drowned but Sgt S Weston survived by swimming to shore. The German Nazi pistol holder was taken from a German Officer than Sgt S Weston took prisoner during the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944.

Of Olympic and fencing Interest- A collection of pre and post war German fencing trophies and medallions presented to Elizabeth Graser:, the medals dating between the 1930s to the early 1950s, including her 1936 Berlin Olympic competitor's badge number '2660', also a copy of 'Die Olympischen Spiele 1936' in original case, a rosewood and oynx jewellery box with cold painted foil and mask decoration and a copy of 'The Sword' October 1991 with a biography of Elizabeth Graser. *Note- Born in Austria and half Jewish, Elizabeth Graser married a German Army officer at the age of 23. After three years of marriage, he died of septicemia and left her the shop in Vienna that sold all types of fencing equipment and weaponry. She continued to fence and was selected to represent Austria in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where she reached the final. In 1939 she accepted papers to leave Austria and left for England with few possessions among which was her fencing kit. Her skill and reputation was well known amongst the fencing world as the Woman in Black, which she often wore while competing, even after she retired at the age of 74 she was still cable of teaching over eager fencers a lesson in skill and accuracy. She became involved with Wimbledon Fencing Club and in turn was a good friend of Derek Sweeney who was National Coach for the National Paraplegic Olympic squad. * Provenance: Elizabeth Graser to Derek Sweeney.
