MILITARY ORDER OF SAINT FERDINAND Knight's Cross of Reduced Size, instituted in 1811. Breast Badge, 35x28 mm, gilt Bronze, enameled, separately made and applied center medallions with fine detail, suspension with stylized palms, grooved ribbon ring, with fine, very old ribbon. An interesting piece from the time of the Carlist Wars (1830) in very fine condition. An identical piece which originally belonged to General Giovanni Durando (later commander of one division of the Sardinian Army in Crimea, 1855), is on display at the Historical Museum of Vicenza (Italy). Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class. Breast Badge, 47 mm, Silver, enameled, separately-made hammer-and-sickle in GOLD, the reverse engraved with no. 478468, mint mark and original, screwback suspension, Order of the Red Star. Breast Badge, 47 mm, Silver, red enamel, the reverse engraved with no. 56120, mint mark and original, screwback suspension. Medal bar with five decorations: Order of the Red Banner (missing, but present a silver plate drilled for mounting a pre-1943, screwback piece); Medal for Courage, Silver and red enameled details, the reverse, struck with no. 174007; Medal for Military Merit, Silver and reed enameled details, the reverse, struck with no. 235073; Medal for the Defense of Moscow, Brass; Medal for the Victory over Germany, Brass; all mounted for wear, with original ribbons on the original, aluminium base-plate with horizontal pin. “Ordenskaya Knizhka” with picture portrait of Zhoganov, wearing the uniform of a Guard’s lieutenant colonel, wearing all the mentioned orders (including the Suvorov with suspension bar), inscribed with all the numbered awards, dated March 8th 1947 (started in December 1942). Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the Victory, type for labourers (perhaps belonged to a member of Zhoganov’s family; brass, with original ribbon on its original plate. Kingdom of Lydia, Kroisos AV Stater. Heavy series. Sardes, circa 564/53-550/39 BC. Confronted foreparts of lion and bull / Two incuse squares of unequal size. Berk 2; Le Rider, Naissance, pl. V, 2; Traité I 396; BMC 30; Boston MFA 2068–9; Gulbenkian 756. 10.79g, 19mm. Extremely Fine. Rare. Kroisos is credited with issuing the first true gold coins with a standardised purity for general circulation. The series began on a ‘heavy’ standard, with gold and silver staters of equal weight, around 10.6-10.7 grams, which was later reduced to about 8.17 grams for the gold. Studies have shown that coins of both standards circulated together, but that the heavy standard was only used for a relatively short time compared to the light standard, which continued to be used into the Persian period. All of the coins of Kroisos feature without variation his heraldic badge, the confronted heads of a lion and a bull, both ancient symbols of power. The badge itself doubtless stems from the ubiquitous and persistent theme of the lion-bull combat scene, which may be interpreted as a metaphor for divinely inspired heroic triumph. Indeed, divinely inspired heroic triumph was exactly what Kroisos expected when, encouraged by a prediction by the Delphic Oracle that if he attacked Persia he would destroy a great empire, Kroisos made his preparations for war with Cyrus the Great. The war resulted in defeat for Kroisos; his numerically superior army was smashed, and the capital Sardes was captured along with Kroisos and his family, who were immolated on the orders of Cyrus. Lydia became a satrapy of the Persian Empire, though it continued to mint coins in the traditional types, and indeed the legendary wealth of Kroisos was used by Cyrus to form the basis of a new Persian gold standard currency.

The Windmill sail was on the badge of Robert Willoughby Lord of Eresbury who fought and died at the battle of Towton Moor in 1461 by the army of Edward IV Robert Willoughby was a Lancastrian, this badge was found on the Thames at London
A FAMILY ARCHIVE OF MEDALS AND OTHER RELATED PAPERS AND ITEMS, relating to a father and Sons Service in WW1 and WW2. Firstly a British War & Victory medal pair, correctly named to 860T.C. H Coxall, TR.CK. (Trawler Cook) Royal Naval Reserve. He is listed as a Casualty when the Steam Trawler 'Corella' out of Grimsby was lost on 30th September, 1919. He was 37 years. With Pensions and issue slip paperwork, and what appears to be a locker or bed plate engraved H Coxall, secondly the WW2 group of medals and miniatures relating to his Son John Steven Coxall. 2387868 consisting of 1939-45, Italy, Africa stars and War Medal,(all un-named) the miniatures have the France & Germany Star and Defence medal in the group? It would appear that Coxall was taken POW possibly during the Africa or Italy Campaigns, and found himself interned at Stalag X1A near Magdeburg, Germany, this Camp was also known as Stalag 341,the medals come with Original documents from the Red Cross including Camp location map, advice booklet for relatives, and a metal plate with the markings of Stalag X1A on it and the POW ID Number 141718, this was Coxalls POW number, Army Form B104, press cutting, ID Card, and Driving Licence, together with a further Licence for Edna Mary Coxall, boxed WW1 era German Iron Cross possibly silver marked KO on reverse, small silver coloured luftwaffe Eagle/Swastika Cap device, and a further German hat badge, together with a small pocket lighter marked JSC, there is also a framed 4'x6' picture of Coxall, together with a silver pocket watch and chain, a lovely family archive
