A BUCKINGHAMSHIRE YEOMANRY QSA WITH THREE BARS. A Queens South Africa Medal with bars Cape Colony-South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. Named to 25246 Cpl E Smeeton 38th Coy Imp Yeo. (High Wycombe) Part of the 10th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, the Bucks Yeomanry sent two contingents of 120 men at a time. A L/Cpl E Smeaton is listed as being accidentally wounded in the action at Wonderfontein 11th June 1901. On this day the Company had Pte Lucas KIA, L Sjt Gillham Wounded (Since Died). Privates Povey & Britwell slightly wounded, also Pte Healy injured.
2 Railway lamps and a cycles lamp. 2 hand held railway lamps, one a ‘Welch Patent’ British Railways Eastern Region square sectioned unpainted steel and copper lamp. With four round clear glass windows, hinged opening door for access to wick with wick adjuster to one corner. Copper topped with hinged opening vent, connected via chain to a hinged handle. The base serves as an oil sump and is equipped with a screw filler. Plus, another later BR style round black painted hand held guard’s lamp, with red, green and clear aspect lenses. Also a Lucas bicycle lamp. An example painted in black with adjustable fitting bracket to rear, clear round lens to front with rectangular green lenses to sides. QGC-GC for age some age wear/patina overall. Plate 3
Italian School (17th century) Standing classical figure with cupid and cherubs, brown pen and ink, together with a further Continental ink drawing of the deposition from the cross, a reverse engraving after Lucas van Leyden of a young man holding a skull, (Bartsch 174), a further reversed copy engraving by the same artist of Saint Jerome in the Desert, (Bartsch 113), a tondo engraving of a fisherman, and a further etching after G A Sirani ''Bacchanale d' Enfants'' , 7.5cm by 8cm, 8.5cm by 16.5cm respectively and various other sizes (6 unframed)
Lucas Motoralities. Five Lucas brochures, including a copy of the rare 80-page vertical format catalogue for Season 1913, unfortunately in very worn and stained covers and with a fair amount of staining internally, but nevertheless valuable for its well-illustrated and detailed information about the Company's motor lamps, dynamos, horns, pumps, oilers, lubricators, etc., plus, a good copy of the 1928 catalogue, and three early Running Instruction booklets for Electric Lighting and Starting Equipment (soiled and worn), Lucas 'Magdyno' Lighting and Ignition Set for Motor-Cycles; and Lucas Magnetos, also, a petit booklet (4 pages plus covers), dated September 1925, for Langol Motor Oils, staples rusty, but the last three items otherwise generally sound (6)
*A circa 1882 Joseph Lucas & Son 'Hub Lamp', in good, original condition, albeit with some surface rusting, the lamp retains its original oil reservoir, wick holder and threaded filling cap, this third model 'Divided Style' lamp is the first to have a near-side sliding window for lighting, threaded centralising antennae and hub tightening bolts, all of the glasses are in good fettle (1)
An 1897 Lucas & Son fully illustrated wholesale catalogue, issued in December 1896, two catalogues in a red buckram bound book: 'Cyclalities', to include lamps, tools, bells, pumps, oilers, etc., together with a Lucas catalogue of 'Cycle Parts', fixtures and fittings, to include logs, chain, chain wheels, gear cases, handlebars grips and the like, also bound-in is a 'Lowest Fixed Retail Price' booklet, gilt tooling to the cover and a little soiled, but fundamentally sound (1)
*An Oil-Powered Hub Lamp. A facsimile lamp manufactured to a particularly high standard about thirty years ago, made in the Lucas 'Divided Style' of circa 1884 with a single sprung clip at the base, but with the earlier pick-wick wick holder, and no slot for a winding mechanism, incorporated are two red side glasses, a circular rear glass, and a bevelled edge 3-inch front glass, all in perfect condition, in full working order, it is finished in a matt black enamel, and an out-of-period oval badge is fitted to the front (1)
*Circa 1898 Quadrant Tricycle. Finished in green enamel and complemented with good nickel-plating, this machine is in campaigning condition, drive to the rear wheels is by a combination differential and contracting band brake differential, to 26-inch wheels, the inch-pitch block chain like the chain wheel is in good condition with the nickel-plated handlebars possessing celluloid grips and a fitted Lucas LSD bell, other features include foot rests fitted to the front forks, new tyres, leather saddle and correct rear luggage support (1)
*A circa 1898 Gormully & Jeffery Mfg. Co., gentleman's 'American Rambler' bicycle, possessing a 24-inch frame, 28-inch wheels, a large inch pitch 'cupped' chain wheel, American back-pedalling rear hub brake, up-turned 18-inch handlebars with patented cork grips and a Lucas roller bell, the delightfully decorative and linear lugs are peculiar to this maker, it comes with a leather saddle and saddle bag. A good refurbishment project (1)
*A circa 1923 Centaur Cross-Frame 'Model 11', gentleman's roadster, with a 23-inch black enamel frame and nickel-plated parts, this is an older restoration and features a single speed chain set with a 'High' 7-inch crank, rat trap pedals, 28-inch Westwood rims and tyres, down-turned 20-inch handlebars with stem fitted short brake levers operating stirrup brakes to both wheels, a Brooks B66 leather saddle and a Lucas bell are fitted, the steering lock is broken (1)
*A circa 1904 'Columbia' Shaft Drive gentleman's 'Model 66' light roadster by The Pope Mfg., Co., having a 23-inch sprung frame with a coil spring housing just below the saddle, with fulcrums at the bottom bracket and rear fork stays, the shaft drive mechanism in good original condition, and retains its oil reservoir threaded cap, 7-inch cranks with rat trap pedals, a three-speed hub gear with a Sturmey Archer thumb control on the 20-inch handlebars, (no cable fitted) and centre-pull cantilever brake on the front Endrick rim. The original front mudguard is insitu and this rare bicycle comes with a snub-nose leather saddle and Lucas bell. A good refurbishment project See also lot 530. (1)
*A 1921 Raleigh 'Special' Model B Roadster. With a 24-inch frame numbered 633919, a nicely restored bicycle with box lining and correct style decals, black enamelled chain-case and handlebars, with latter with roller brake levers operating period stirrup brakes on 28-inch Westwood rims, also fitted is a period rear rack, a Lucas bell, a Brooks (OO) badged leather saddle a 1908 period Lucas 'Holophote' and a Powell and Hanmer rear oil-powered lamps. A K-type gear hub and brass pump and block rubber pedals complete the ensemble. In fine, rideable condition (1)

A forerunner of the Record Ace, a lower frame model with a number of 16761, having a black enamel finish and decals, the 22-inch frame includes a chain wheel dated 'S' (1931), driving a double fixed hub, Endrick rims with wingnuts back and front, a Bowden cable operated contracting brake to the front wheel, North Road handlebars mounted on a single tube extension, Raleigh pneumatic pump, rat-trap pedals with toe clips and a Lucas 'Calcia Cadet' acetylene gas lamp fitted to the nearside fork with a bell and a B17 saddle (1)
*A circa 1910 Rudge Whitworth Lady's Roadster. Comprising a swan neck loop frame of 23-inches the bicycle features up-turned silver enamelled handlebars with inverted brake levers and a Lucas bell fitted, a tall steering head, centre pull stirrup brakes, Brooks B52 leather saddle, period mudguards, Westwood rims with 28-inch tyres, pump and adjustable single piece cranks and chain set with rubber block pedals. The machine is painted dark green and comes with a steering lock, a rear reflector and a Lucas 'Aceta' acetylene gas lamp of the correct period (1)
