* PETER HOWSON OBE, LOST LUCIE,1999 oil on canvas, signed 91cm x 76cm Framed Label verso: Flowers East, London. Gallery serial number AFG 30205 Note: This powerful painting depicts the artist's anguish and guilt after hiis young and vulnerable daughter, Lucie, had packed a bag and secretly left home following a heated arguement with her father while he was intoxicated. He eventually found her later that night wandering aimlessly in Kelvingrove Park. Perhaps the only constant in Peter's sometimes troubled life is his complete devotion to Lucie.

She was in 1st year when Stephen Campbell; Adrian Wiszniewski ; Ken Currie and Peter Howson were in their 4th year. Among her contemporaries were Mary Maclean; Alison Harper; Lesley Burr; Margaret Hunter and Helen Flockhart. Whilst still a student in third year she was the first Scot and youngest person to win the prestigious John Player National Portrait Award (now BP) in 1984, followed by GSA Alumni Alison Watt in 1987 and Allan Ramsay in 1988.
* CONOR GRAY, CHIEFTAIN pastel on paper, signed 65cm x 50cm Mounted, framed and under glass Note from Peter Howson OBE: The young artist, Conor Gray, has been working with me at my studio for a year. He has been learning about the techniques of oil painting and drawing with pastel. The pastels in this auction reveal to me how much he has learned about drawing, composition, colour and the use of imagination in art. These pieces are very much inspired by the work of myself and Frank McFadden, but they are also very much his own work. They show what a great gift he has, and how he is building for the future on strong foundations. What we have here at the studio is a kind of mini Art School built on the traditions of the Artist-Apprentice relationship, which started in Medieval and continued through to Renaissance periods of Art History. If he can continue with the quality of work produced after one year, then I see a brilliant future ahead of him. Peter Howson, 2015.
