with red and white glaze, impressed marks to underside18.5cm highLiterature: Paul Atterbury and John Henson Ruskin Pottery, Baxendale, page 112 this actual coffee pot illustratedFootnote: The Ruskin Pottery studio was founded in 1898 by Edward Taylor, principal of the Birmingham School of Art, and it was run by his son, William Howson Taylor. The studio was named after John Ruskin, the influential artist, writer and social thinker. The pottery is known for its outstanding glazes - William Taylor referenced the glazes achieved by the Sung and Ming Dynasty and created his own masterpieces. In particular, he mastered the complex technique of “sang de boeuf”, using the ‘high fired’ method to produce a range of colours and unique ‘fissured’ glaze effects. The Ruskin factory in West Smethwick, Birmingham, stopped making new pieces in 1933 and closed two years later.Condition report: With some pits in the glaze, but free from damage and repair.
