PETER HOWSON (B. 1958) GALLOWGATE GUEST XVII signed l.r.: Howson coloured chalks 29.5 cm by 21 cm; 12 3/4 in by 8 1/4 in Provenance Flowers East Exhibited Peter Howson: A Retrospective, 2nd July-5th September 1993, McLennan Galleries Glasgow, no 546 The city of Glasgow has provided constant inspiration for Peter Howson's highly distinctive and frequently uncompromising work. Gallowgate, in particular,where Howson lives and works, is a constant in some of his most famous pieces, an area he describes as a place where "bad things happen...(although the people there are) real in comparison to the people who generally hang about the art world." (quoted, Donalld Kuspit, Bipolar Paintings by Peter Howson, The Scottish Bosch).
Fenwick, George Lee 'A History of the Ancient City of Chester from the Earliest Times' (Phillipson and Golder 1896), frontispiece detached, but otherwise in good condition together with Howson, J. S., 'The River Dee - Its Aspect and History', requires rebinding, water damage up to P7, minor water stains 145 - end.

(5) Provenance: The Estate of Mr Joseph B. Hay, son of Major-General Arthur K. Hay DSO OBE - 100 years of a military family.
A set of four plain oval silver napkin rings by Roberts & Dore Ltd., Sheffield, 2005; also a modern silver key ring of tablet form, with plated ring, in original fitted box, by Harrison Brothers & Howson Ltd., Birmingham, 2009, inscribed to one side "If you could see what I can see When I'm cleaning silver", wt. 139 gm.
