Frodsham, London, 2368, the gilded-brass dial plate profusely engraved with floral and c-scroll decoration, with a subsidiary seconds dial and decorative blued-steel fleur-de-lys hands, the arch having a subsidiary strike/silent dial, the mahogany case having a glazed trunk door, fluted quarter-columns to the hood and trunk, an inset panel to the base, a swan-neck pediment to the hood and all standing on bracket feet, height 232cms.* Biography Charles Frodsham was born into the famous Frodsham family of clockmakers on the 15th of April 1810 and apprenticed to his father William Frodsham, a founder of the chronometer making firm Parkinson & Frodsham. Charles entered eleven chronometers in the Premium trials at Greenwich until the cessation of these trials in 1836, receiving a 2nd prize in 1830. After marrying he set up on his own account at 7, Finsbury Pavement and in 1843 acquired the chronometer making business of the eminent Arnold family moving to 84, The Strand and trading as Arnold & Frodsham until 1858. On the death of Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy in 1854 Frodsham purchased the goodwill of the Vulliamy business, and on the recommendation of Airy succeeded Vulliamy as Superintendent and Keeper of Her Majesty's Clocks at Buckingham Palace. Charles Frodsham was a highly regarded author of papers and books on horology and in 1871 published The History of the Marine Chronometer, the first English language book on this subject. Frodsham died of liver disease in 1871 being succeeded by his son Harrison Frodsham and from 1884 the firm traded as Charles Frodsham & Co., becoming incorporated in 1893 and moving to 115 New Bond Street in 1895.

The lugs and case sides show some signs of wear and blemishes (photographed) but generally ok. The bezel appears in good condition with no concerning issues. The crystal appears relatively unscratched. The crystal edges bear some but few very tiny nicks which are rather difficult to see with the naked eye and are not hugely concerning. Winding crown functions. This watch has not seen every-day use.

A GENTLEMAN'S MILITARY WRISTWATCH BY OMEGA, circa 1956, the circular dial with Arabic numerals, outer 'train track' minute divisions and centre seconds hand, to a jewelled manual movement numbered 30SCT2 and 9578892, the case with exterior inscription 'A. M. 6B/159 522/56', on a later fabric strap, case width 3.5cm Issued to RAF pilots and navigators, the Mark VII A 6B/159 wristwatch was used to calculate location and distance, containing a precision movement regulated to chronometer standards. Each wristwatch had to maintain a level of accuracy timed in various positions and at various temperatures accumulated over a twelve hour period. The case back for each wristwatch was inscribed 'A.M.' for Air Ministry, '6B' for 'Aircraft Navigation Equipment, Accessories and Unit Servicing Parts', and '159' for navigation watch, followed by a serial/issue number and year of manufacture.

This piece was later issued by Omega in 2018, following a personal request after the soldier's original was stolen during a burglary. Following confirmation of the soldier's credentials, Omega produced this piece as a replacement. - **These watches were exclusively for members serving in the British Army 22 SAS Regiment based in Hereford. Each piece has an individual ZAP code to identify each watch with the original owner. The case backs are engraved with the SAS winged dagger badge insignia and the motto "Always A Little Further" has been laser engraved into the side of the case, it is thought as few as 300 were issued

A Mahogany Eight Day Marine Chronometer, by Victor Kullberg, numbered 9282, supplied to the British Government India Office in 1919, bottom case section with concealed side handles, silvered dial with Roman numerals, later retailers signature Greenwich Time R.A.Jones & Sons Ltd The County Watchmakers, numbered 9282 broad arrow I 1919, two dials for seconds and up/down indication, single fusee movement with a spring detent escapement, maintaining power, blued screws, movement stamped with broad arrow I 1919 and numbered 9282, free sprung helical hairspring, bimetallic compensation split balance with timing screws and weights, diamond endstone, movement contained in a brass gimbal numbered inside bowl 9282, 13cm high, sold with a CD showing all the client's research and images of the Victor Kullberg's pages in the original record book and a typed copy by the vendor of Victor Kullberg's order book 1913-1919. see illustrations This movement shows all the characteristics of Victor Kullberg's top quality work. These eight day chronometers were used in the 19th/early 20th century and ordered by the British Government for military use at sea. It is understood from the current vendor's extensive research that in 2010 Jonathan Betts, curator of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, confirmed that the movement was by Victor Kullberg. The Guildhall Library in London confirmed from the Victor Kullberg original record books that this chronometer 9282 was ordered by the British Government India Office along with two other eight day marine chronometers 9264 & 9266 at £57.10s each on September 17th 1919. 21.02.19, The bottom case section with scratches and slightly faded in parts, metal mounts are discoloured, upper two box sections are missing. The retailers signature on the dial has been later added, back of the dial with signs of punch marks, a signature appears to have been removed at some time and the current retailers name added, gimbal brass surfaces are discoloured and with surface scratches, movement is winding smoothly and the power reserve hand is moving correctly when winding, balance with a good swinging action, movement in going order.
